The best Indians in Durham according to Tripadvisor but on my visit last last year the veg madras I had was quite basic, lacking the expected intense flavour and loaded sparsely with vegetables. I’m up to going again though but for now will have to leave it a 3.
I've been wanting a curry for ages but most local takeaways and restaurants don't seem to have vegan options available/listed on the menu. They are clearly marked on Shaheen's menu - and there are several choices - so it was a priority visit. Had Onion Bhaji to start (minus the yoghurt dip, served separately). This was not as fatally deep fried as most bhajis are and was also quite spicy - really delicious. Main course was a pretty solid balti chana which came with pilau rice. Also had a garlic paratha on the side, as this was listed VG. Portion size is generous. It was about £35 each once we split the bill, and I also had two large bottles of beer. My only real complaint is that the restaurant is SO warm inside. I'd recommend attending with an empty tummy and no jumper.
