Fancy vegan options - very accommodating - Edit
Visited the cellar door for our anniversary.
Read moreThe cellar door offers a vegan option for each course. They have a different lunch and dinner menu. I enquired in advance if we could pre order to have one of the lunch time starters, one of the dinner menu starters, and the same for main course and dessert and they were very accommodating. No one wants to have the same thing as their partner for every course.
Upon arrival they knew we had pre ordered, bread came with oil instead of butter which made us know they had clearly accommodated for us. The wines were clearly listed as vegan.
They do change their menus monthly, so the food will be different however I wanted to review each plate.
Course by course run through
Yukon gold starter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really yummy, the avacado purée and garlic and peas were really good
Compressed watermelon starter ⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was interesting in terms of flavours, but it wasn’t for me. Replace the watermelon with charred slices of tomato, or a carb and I think you’re onto a winner. I ate it all, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Smoked Oyster Mushroom ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My husband loved this, he tried every part and then together and it all worked beautifully
Brocolli & seitan pie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great pastry on the pie, jersey royals cooked to perfection. It just needed a sauce as the filling was quite heavy, it needed a gravy of sorts.
Pineapple dessert ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Perfect light dessert, flavours worked brilliantly. Massive fan of the lime sorbet
Strawberry & chocolate espuma ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We didn’t think basil sorbet would work but we were wrong. This was like a ratatouille moment of all the flavours coming together. Genuinely an experience in a dish.

Beautiful and delicious - Edit
I absolutely loved this place. The dining room is calm and light filled but still cosy, with a roof terrace which has gorgeous views out over the river. The staff are super friendly and the food is thoughtfully put together and tastes fabulous. I love all the vegan junk food options out there but I really miss fine dining restaurants as a vegan.
Read moreThere are great choices on the a la carte menu but I went for the great value lunch menu which is 3 courses for £24 or 2 for £20. I had the broccoli and vegan feta pie with chargrilled hispi and hazelnuts. Disappointed I didn't get a picture but it was so good I completely forgot. After that it was vegan sticky toffee pudding with treacle sauce and the subtlest creamiest pink colada sorbet. So good! I will definitely be back!
Pros: Beautiful and delicious fine dining food, Lovely dining room & great staff, Gorgeous roof terrace with views of the river
Cons: Steep stairs to get in if you have mobility issues

Interesting fine dining vegan options - Edit
Whilst there was only one option per course the options themselves were well thought out and incredibly tasty. The staff were also very friendly

Unique - Edit
There is one vegan starter, main and dessert on the menu. It’s a small menu that changes every month. The food was amazing and like nothing I’ve had before. Really impressive and apparently made with all locally sourced ingredients. It’s not your usual menu and it was good to try something completely different. I would highly recommend! The cocktails are really good too.

Delicious, creative, beautiful food - Edit
This is a special place, found down a rather unassuming staircase! Lovely decor and a view of the river and footbridge. There are outdoor tables for fine weather days. The set-price lunch menu had four choices for each course (there was also an a la carte menu). Everything came out looking beautiful, on hot plates, served by friendly staff. I ate alone but was made to feel comfortable and welcome. It is lovely to find chefs who ensure there are vegan choices but use imagination and flair to create unusual taste combinations. I was really impressed. I have attached a photo of each of my courses, with details. The coffee was also excellent!
