Tofu with pine nuts

Many of the dishes here feature pine nuts, which are a local specialty. They have a couple of dishes that are vegan-friendly, e.g. tofu mushroom stew 두부버섯전골 (available for 2 people), potato pancake 감자전, silken tofu 순두부 and acorn jelly salad 도토리묵무침.

The owner assured us that they only put mushrooms and vegetables into the broth for the stew. The stew comes in a large pot with a pretty tower of vegetables, tofu and mushrooms. It is served with rice and a lot (12!) of side dishes, but many of those contain fish or shrimp sauce. And by that I mean not just the kimchi, which is not vegan as usual. I'd suggest to stay away from all sides that are seasoned with chili flakes or chili paste here, i.e. everything red.❗

This place is mentioned in Korean vegan blogs and it seems to be famous at least since it was featured on TV in 2019. My personal opinion is that the food tasted ok but the quality was not as good as I expected. Food definitively looked better in advertisements...

Btw, as is common among tofu restaurants, there's free soy pulp (비지) for customers to take home. The fridge outside is filled with bags of it and you can simply help yourself if interested.

The restaurant is very spacious and has a lot of windows with a nice view, because it is located on the top of a hill, overlooking a garden. You can hardly miss the restaurant if you're heading towards the park "Garden of Morning Calm" (아침 고요 수목원) which is a touristic attraction in this area.
