It Was Okay - Edit
The tofu was firm but unflavored and the vegetables were overdone and too salty but I'll give them ups for having the option available.
Read moreKind of a standard breakfast place where you want to be pleasantly surprised by the food but really you're not going to be but you'll get full.
Pros: Staff, Atmosphere for breakfast
Cons: It was only a passable effort on the tofu scramble

They've removed everything but the scramble - Edit
After reading the reviews, I concluded that this would be fine as long as I didn't get the tofu scramble. But when I asked about other options, they said that the scramble was the only vegan option left and that they removed the rest. Food was as bad as people are saying.

Bland tofu scramble - Edit
Very nice staff & atmosphere! However, the tofu scramble might be the worst I've ever had. I think the only seasoning they used was turmeric, and the tofu and veggies were mushy. Didn't even eat a quarter of it. Home fries and toast were okay. At least their coffee was good.

Tofu scramble not good - Edit
I had the tofu scramble, which is easy to make, but this was just bad. The only spice was tumeric and too much of it. No onion, garlic, smoky paprika. Any cooking demo on YouTube would make better. The service was excellent and friendly.

I appreciate the effort..but no - Edit
I appreciate the attempt to have a tofu scramble but it was very bad. It’s like they took the tofu, microwaved it with canned veggies and put turmeric on it and called it a day. No seasoning. The “home fries” were just literal fried potato cubes. Not a hint of flavor. The service was great though!

Delicious & heart-warming breakfast! - Edit
After reading the previous reviews, I was a bit skeptical of finding vegan breakfast options here. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the cafe had a tofu veggie scramble and a vegan & GF French toast, among other options! I felt welcomed by my server, Jody, who was attentive and friendly, as well as the authentic, homey atmosphere of the cafe, with local art decorating the walls. I highly recommend stopping in for a meal here!

nice place, ok choices - Edit
Since moving to the area, I had been very interested in the Riverside Cafe, but they aren't open for dinner so it took a while to get there for lunch. The place has such nice comfortable ambiance, and is clearly popular with local s and travelers. The options are much better for vegetarians than vegans. I didn't feel like having french toast for lunch or a sandwich, so I asked to swap tofu and hummus for bacon and egg on the spinach salad. The salad was nice, the hummus was homemade and a little special, and the tofu was a bit bland, especially for "herb-seasoned and roasted". There was an upcharge for "adding" tofu and hummus, though it was only 75 cents per item. The server was so great and helpful, and it was such a nice experience, I didn't push the upcharge. Unfortunately I won't be hurrying back for lack of interesting or abundant vegan options.

Impressed, great stop for any vegan in a non-vegan family/group out to eat - Edit
I'd been travelling out of state to visit my great-grandma here since I was a child, before I even went vegetarian. After going vegan, eating out was difficult at best. I'm not used to being able to find good vegan food out to eat in Ellsworth, and this place had several options! I had the french toast, and it was amazing! I couldn't find a menu online so I messaged them on facebook and explained and they sent me their current menu immediately and were super kind about it! They even had a vegan section on the menu! No fussing about trying to make a meal from the sides! The veggie sausage wasn't vegan, but oh well, I'm glad I was able to find something at all that wasn't salad! The food was delicious and a great place to stop for breakfast next time I eat out!

Decent! - Edit
They offer vegan french toast as well as a tofu scramble. I was told the vegetarian sausages are also vegan, and a few other vegetarian items. They are a bit pricey, but the food is good.
