Phoning it in. - Edit
Arrived around 4p on a Sunday, the place was empty. Two servers were at the bar and disinterested in greeting or serving us. It was freezing cold and we were heavily coated, our coats were ignored right past the coat rack.
Read moreI was intrigued by the menu and ignored these signs.
We arrived hungry and it seemed to take forever for the server to take our order. I went to the the bar to see if we might get things moving. The servers were chatting and did not seem concerned with the single other seated table or me. I asked if a manager was available and was told maybe he was in the back. The interaction made me question the servers' English to myself. We didn't meet the manager until after the meal
I grabbed a bottle of water from the station and took it to the table. We ordered hot and sour soup, the crispy broccoli and stuffed tofu skins appetizers; the pumpkin mapo tofu and cumin tofu mains.
The food was delivered haphazardly, presumably when it was ready. No effort given to seeing if we'd completed a course, or if we liked the food. The tofu skins came out first and three presentation was askew. They were a bit soggy, but tasted good. The soup was next, delivered with there bowls and we were left with an awkward wooden spoon to serve it to ourselves. The crispy broccoli came out right after the soup and then the mapo tofu while we barely had time to touch the soup or broccoli. Then the cumin tofu after a short while.
It was easy to see each dish had been carefully designed, but none was executed to it's potential, save perhaps the broccoli. The mapo tofu dish did not include the tempeh listed on the menu.
The manager came to collect the bill. It was over $100, with no drinks. I told him I had been intrigued by the menu and the chef's qualifications. He replied that the restaurant had been losing money every month, and that next month they would add meat to the menu to try to achieve profitability.
It's a shame. This place could have been a fabulous haven. They probably needed to close during quiet hours after lunch and before dinner, but I'm no restaurant manager. It's a tough business. If you decide to try it before they add meat on March 1, try going in the middle of lunch or dinner. Perhaps both food and service will be better when they are busy.
Pros: 100 plant based menu., Creative dishes., Nice ambience.
Cons: Lackadaisical serving staff, Poor execution , Adding meat to the menu in March

They now offer beef, pork, lamb, fish, shrimp, eggs, etc. Nothing on the menu is listed as vegan anymore. I asked HC this morning to remove this listing.

Date Night! - Edit
Yummy and fun. Expensive but it's a good date night spot. We loved the cocktails. We tried the Wizard of Oz, Ozmanthus, the Autumn, and the old fashioned. Chili oil wontons are always great. Tofu pockets were so cute! Loved the signature noodles and the black truffle rice. Wish we skipped the tomato tofu hot pot. It was too tomatoey. Overall it was a nice time.

Not only are the staple dishes consistently good, but the seasonal additions to the menu are always a joy to try. The dry pot and kabocha are must-tries.

Not vegan! - Edit
They have a dessert listed as ice cream with vegan poprocks. I know poprocks aren't vegan so I asked twice about them and was told they're a "culinary poprock." I asked to see the packaging and the second ingredient (of three) was "lactose (milk.)" I spoke with the manager and he started saying something about them changing their supplier but there were two open bags of this stuff, so who knows many people they served this to.

Elevated Asian Food - Edit
The food presentation and taste are both outstanding at Pusu. We tried several appetizers and entrees for the table during our dining experience.
Read moreThe appetizers were all delicious. We had the tofu pouches (yummy but beware if you don’t like spicy), deep fried mushrooms with a very good dipping sauce, and the crispy broccoli. The broccoli presentation matched the delicious taste!!
For entrees we tried the happy cow reviewers’ highly recommended pumpkin mapo tofu. The presentation was incredible - the acorn squash was artistically displayed and the rice on the plate was set on fire (flambé). Unfortunately the taste did not match the presentation. The dish was super spicy even though it was ordered with a low spice level. The dish was made of silken tofu cubes which we did not care for. They are so smushy.
We also had the crispy tofu popcorn, which was made from silken tofu too. For this dish, the tofu worked as each cube was deep fried and served with a nice plum dipping sauce. Each bite was firm on the outside with an unexpected but enjoyable soft inside.
The general tso’s chicken was hands down a favorite, as was the pineapple rice. They actually went well together!!
There was also a nice assortment of tea options that can be served hot or cold.
Pros: Amazing food taste and presentation!, Good service
Cons: None!

Insane - Edit
We had so much incredible food at our dinner at Pusu! We had the following:
Read morePumpkin Mapo Tofu 9.5/10 - I am a massive fan of mapo tofu and it’s so hard to find veg mapo tofu. This was probably the best veg mapo tofu I’ve ever had. Absolutely blew me away and the star of our din.
Fried mushrooms 9/10 - definitely get these! Great size and they were incredible!
Hot and sour soup 9/10 - incredibile flavor and really nice spice!
Mala dry pot 8/10 - really yummy variety of vegetables and had a really awesome flavor
Canton noodles 7.5/10 - these were super yummy but lacked the dimension of flavor everything else had. While on their own they would be incredible, they were dull compared to everything else we ate.
I took my non-vegan mom here and she thought it was “to die for,” we both left stuffed (with a ton of leftovers) and super super satisfied! I will definitely be returning!

The most delicious vegan Chinese food - Edit
Finally got to try this new restaurant in my neighborhood, I had heard it recently changed from Vegetarian/Vegan to 100% Vegan so I was extra excited about supporting a local vegan restaurant.
Read moreWe ordered takeaway to bring over to a friends gathering and the host did an outstanding job on guiding me to the items that would travel the best. We ordered the Black Truffle Fried Rice, Dry Mushroom Fried String Beans, Black Pepper Sausage, Deep-Fried Mushrooms w/ Salt & Pepper, Dried Chili Beyond Chicken and a Stir-Fried Spicy & Sour Shredded Potato... It was ALL delicious, we loved everything we ordered. If I had to pick favorites I'd have to say the Truffle Fried Rice, Dry Mushroom Fried String Beans, Deep-Fried Mushrooms and the Dried Chili Beyond Chicken was a big hit too but you couldn't go wrong ordering any of the above! The vegan Orange Juice egg on the sausage dish was so unique!
We didn't take any photos because it wouldn't have done the food justice. Inside the restaurant looks beautiful, it's sure to be an elevated and serene dining experience, I look forward to eating in soon!
Pros: Delicious and creative vegan food, Friendly service , Beautiful space

Wide menu selection, cocktails - Edit
Pleasant and calm interior. Very wide selection on the menu, creative presentation, tasty cocktails. Friendly and attentive service! Server informed us that the menu will be updated soon to indicate clearly which items are vegan, and most items are already vegan. Recommend: Pumpkin/squash mapo tofu (don’t forget to scoop the insides of soft pumpkin, you can eat the skin too!), popcorn tofu (great flavor/texture), hot & sour soup, vegan chili offals, Cantonese fried noodles (chow fun).
