Pho Grand is delicious!

Vegan options are available, just ask your server! I recommend crispy tofu appetizer and any dishes with curry!

Nothing vegan

I asked multiple times if there was any milk or animal in what I ordered and they said no. There was clearly fish sauce.

Staff created a unique vegan dish for us that was not on menu

They serve Vietnamese food here which means a lot of animal products. Tons of chicken and beef based foods, what doesn’t include meat more than likely will include animal brother.

When we told our waiter we were vegan he informed us that many of the items on the menu couldn’t be made vegan, like the stir fry. But, he had the kitchen make us a special dish that wasn’t even on the menu.

There is a section for vegetarians and it can be made vegan.

We got a fried tofu appetizer that was amazing. We also got a noodle dish, which the waiter made up for us, and a curry dish with extra vegetables. Every item we got was specially recommended by our waiter and it was dishes

Rice, rice noodles, vegetables, tofu.

Pros: Staff willing to create extra vegan options

Cons: Almost all the dishes include some kind of animal

All broth is animal based!!

I had to pry to find out that items they claim are vegetarian (like Pho) are NOT. Beef and chicken broth are the only ones they have! This was told to me by the people running the restaurant. They said “the broth is chicken/beef, but don’t worry it’s vegan.” UMMM?!?!

Pros: None

Cons: Hidden animal ingredients in everything

We had same problem. So many talk up this place for vegan options, but once you ask enough questions, its clearly not vegan... or even vegetarian. Fish sauce, oyster sauce if I recall. If you enjoy plain veggies and soy sauce, this is perhaps an option.

Great Food

Our experience was great overall. The service was amazing, one of the waitresses helped us with the menu. The food was also really good! The tofu was some of the best I’ve had.

Pros: Good service, Great food

Cons: Large portions

LOVE this place!

I can't be impartial, after dining here for nearly 30 years, sometimes several times a week, I just love this place. First of all, it's cheap (why we started eating here, back when it was the only Vietnamese place in St. Louis), and they've kept it so reasonable. The food comes fast, and it's always hot and tasty. Yes it gets crowded, but they turn tables pretty quickly. And the owners are just such nice people. The lemongrass tofu and the tofu in tomato sauce are forever beloved. Happy Cow limits us to 4 stars for restaurants that aren't 100% vegetarian, but i would give this 5 if i could.

Pros: good veggie options , cheap, fast

Cons: sometimes need to wait for a table

Watch Out for Fish

Brown sauce (served in squirt bottle on table) tasted of fish.

Entire section on the menu for vegetarian/vegan consumption.

Pros: wide variety

Cons: sneaky fish

"Vegetarian" dishes contain fish sauce

Be aware that in "our culture" (the term staff used more than once), fish is allowed in "vegetarian" cuisine, so the dishes marked vegetarian contain fish sauce unless you request otherwise. They assured me that "vegans tell us, so we leave out the fish sauce for them". So be sure to make your needs known and keep explaining to them that fish aren't vegetables. (Honestly, the food was just "OK")
Oh, and the only "meat substitute" I saw on their menu was tofu. If there were others, they didn't tell us about them after we said we were vegan. And there was no veg pho. We asked.

Pros: Knowledgeable staff

Cons: "Veg" dishes contain fish sauce

GREAT

Been to this restaurant once. I would love to go back but St. Louis isn't all that close to me. They have many mock meat items. The family that runs (cooks and waits the tables) are vegetarian. HUGE selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes!

Pros: Great food, great price

Cons: Far from me
