Not the place you'd expect to serve vegan stuff - Edit
When I was handed the foldable menu, which looks as bog standard as those of any other döner or pizza joint, I didn't expect much, especially not in a rural place like this. Imagine my surprise when I've found dishes with an all caps "(VEGAN)" behind them. Most of the menu lists döner, pizza, pasta, burgers and schnitzel, but then they also have falafel sandwich and a falafel platter, both with dairy-free tahini sauce and that sweet "(VEGAN)" written behind the entries. The menu also declares the musabaha (cooked chickpeas, tahini), muttabal (pureed grilled eggplant, tahini), arab salad, fattoush (tomato, cucumber, parsley, bread), ful (cooked broad beans, tomato, parsley, tahini) and tabulé as vegan; they are listed as starters, but the muttabal was so much, I was still eating from it three days later. And I wouldn't be surprised if the kumpir or the sandwich with zucchini, eggplant and bell pepper could easily be veganized as well. But asking for that could prove difficult...
Read moreSee, the member of staff who was on duty when I was there barely spoke German. I wanted to inquire why almost every dish has the allergy declaration for dairy, even those that are declared vegan, while the cheeseburger or mozzarella sticks do not, but the staff member didn't understand what I was getting it. I guess they are like almost every other place out there: inept to grasp the concept of allergen declarations and just assigning them randomly, for better or for worse. But as they went to the lengths of flagging dishes as vegan or vegetarian, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that they at least know what these two words mean. Or at least the person who devised the menu.
But now for food actually flagged as vegan: I've had a falafel sandwich and the aforementioned muttabal. The falafel were pretty standard, but they've grilled the sandwich after they've wrapped it and that made it actually quite delish. The muttabal was tasty, smoky and very rich, and I deplore that I didn't pick up some pita bread with it. I really don't think it's a starter and 3.50 for such a generous serving is good value for money.
All in all it's still fairly basic and I wouldn't care much for this place if it was in a bigger city, but finding a place that declares its dishes as vegan is a rarity in the countryside. At least now I know where I can grab a bite when I'm in this area again.
EDIT: deducted a * as they've increased the prices early 2022. No value for money anymore

Not Good - Edit
They do have some vegan options. However the portions are very small. The food tastes ok, but after the last visit I got a gastrointestinal upset...
