Parea - Great food, but service needs improvement - Edit
The Parea was highly recommended to me by colleagues who had been there several times and praised the food, service and ambiance. Motivated by these positive experiences, I visited the restaurant last Friday with three colleagues. Unfortunately, the service that evening did not meet expectations at all!
The waiter serving us that evening was unfriendly and unprofessional. My colleague, who had been there several times, had never seen him there before and thought he must be new.
For example, when we were considering whether to order the set menu or the mezes individually, he told us to take the menu because many dishes would be sold out shortly - he "wanted to make that very clear to us now". When I asked if he could include the vegan options listed on the menu in the set menu, he reacted dismissively and claimed that there were no vegan dishes - "on principle" not. However, this contradicted the menu, which listed several mezes as vegan. After consulting with the kitchen, I was served a vegan selection, which tasted good.
Between courses, the waiter gave me the "tip" never to travel to Greece, as I would starve there as a vegan. I found this behavior inappropriate and unprofessional.
My colleagues, who eat a mixed diet, were also disappointed with the service. For example, they ordered the set menu with fish and meat but pointed out that they did not want the meat, which he acknowledged without comment. Nevertheless, at some point, a plate with a large beef fillet suddenly appeared next to me (the vegan), instead of being placed in the middle of the table, as he had done with the other dishes. This may have been a coincidence or inattentiveness, but in any case, it left a bitter aftertaste for me.
Conclusion: The food at Parea was good, the ambiance appealing. However, the service left a lot to be desired that evening. The unfriendly and unprofessional manner of the waiter considerably clouded the overall impression.
Dietary restrictions: Don't go there as a vegan! Even though some vegan options are offered on the menu - I was told quite clearly and unfriendly that this was not true, "on principle".
While ther's a main dish (eggplant steak) almost all of the other options are mezze, one of which warm. But since there's an interesting dessert (orange mousse) you can certainly get a good three course meal here. The outdoor seating is nice in summer, not much traffic in the area.
