Delicious Chana masala & roti

The owner of this place is so kind and the vegan chana masala is the best I’ve ever had! The roti is delicious too. I got two other vegan curries that weren’t as good but it’s worth it to come here just for the Chana masala and roti. I go to SNU twice a week and it’s the perfect place to eat after class.

Pros: Chana masala, Roti

Cons: Other vegan curries can be improved

Tasty Indian

There are vegetarian and vegan menus like other Indian restaurants. They are aware of vegan and you can enjoy vegan Indian cuisine with affordable price.

Good curry

The food is very good, we especially liked the naan bread. We also tried the samosas. Quantity is also fine. The service is a bit slow and there was a problem with the bill, but the quality of the food was good! Good option for vegans. You have to ask for the vegan/vegetarian menu.

Ask for the veggie menu

I suggest you ask for the "special vegetarian curry menu" (스페셜 채식커리 메뉴) or you will be served Koreanized Indian food. The restaurant offers a variety of veggie-friendly foods, some of which can be veganized upon request.

That separate menu contains a lot of dishes featuring exotic vegetables, e.g. okra and bitter gourd. I've had good experiences with these dishes.

When I ordered veganized food from the regular menu, however, everything tasted quite sweet, even though we had got a variety of different curry dishes. It seemed like the cooking was adapted to please Korean taste buds.

The naan (bread) is very thin and the texture is soft and partially crunchy, which is nice. But even the basic naan can taste surprisingly sweet.

As a starter, you will get fried Papadam, which was very salty. Korean rice is also served free off charge, but it isn't done that well.

This place is a nice local option when eating with a group of people who have diverse eating preferences and don't mind Indian spices. (I know some Koreans who don't like Indian food in general.) It is a large restaurant in the basement of a large building and always seems like a busy restaurant. Service can be slow when there are many other guests.

Pros: taste ok

Cons: authentic or non-authentic taste varies, slow service when busy

Has more curry options in comparison to others

This is my go-to Indian restaurant as it is only a bus ride away from where I live. What I really like about this restaurant is that it has South Indian curries on its menu--something you can't find easily in S. Korea. The menu has undergone changes. While there is a separate vegetarian menu, you can order your curries and choose whether you want the vegetable or the meat option in the regular menu. Then, you can specify how hot you want your curries to be.

Nice Indian curry place

Popular among SNU students. Ask for a vegetarian menu and also ask for dishes that don't contain any dairy products. Dal fry and vegetable vindaloo are vegan.

Pros: Authentic Indian curry in a country dominated by J

Cons: A bit expensive. I wouldn't go there on a dail

Vegetarian haven next to SNU

Otsal was a much needed discovery in an area packed with meat-centered restaurants we would never consider visiting. The place gives you a fully Indian experience, and has a special vegetarian menu, just as advertised here. As a vegan I was burnt a little, because I ordered some dishes that contained cheese without knowing and ended up passing them to my vegetarian companion. I encourage you to learn from my silly spontaneity and make sure you verify your choice doesn't contain any cream, milk or cheese. Most dishes, saffron rice and the garlic bread we ordered were very tasty, The tomato soup wasn't, though. In the end of the meal we were given two cups of chai masala (with milk...) on the house.
My partner found the dishes way too spicy for his taste, so if that's an issue for you, make sure you let them know when ordering.
And one last tip: The vegetarian menu doesn't let you know what each dish contains, so make sure you google it first. I posted a picture of the menu in the images section so you could do some homework before your arrival :)

Pros: Lots of vegetarian dishes, friendly staff, affordable, has take out service

Cons: The vegetarian menu isn't vegan, The veg menu doesn't specify contents of dishes, spicy dishes -- beware!
