Gourmet Hot Dogs, Nachos, Americana and more! - Edit
This place hits the nail on the head for fancy fast food. Tater tots, nachos, hot dogs, and a few other American classics fused with creative toppings and build-you-own options. Also a few soups, a curry, dumplings, desserts and a few other rotating menu items. BYOB for $1/person. I visit every time I’m in the area.

Dynamite flavors! - Edit
Had the Come My Pho-natics and Emperor Palpatots. I also got a bowl of the lentil soup as a starter. I underestimated the size of portions. Used to everything coming out in a 1 cup serving bowl, when eating at other vegan restaurants. So yeah, I ordered too much but they pretty much all of it. Great flavors and presentation. Solid menu selection, something for everyone. Come for the cruelty free food, stay for the music. Up the Irons!

Great Asian Fusian vegan - Edit
My husband and I each ordered a different asian fusian dish and they were both fantastic and just the right portion. I got some tater tots with their cashew cheese sauce and loved those as well. My husband enjoyed the tiramissu but it didn't do much for me. I also surprisingly didn't care for the macha powder though I'm usually a green tea drinker. The portion of the tiramissu is a bit much for one person so I wouldn't suggest it unless both guests are interested in it.

Punk rock vegan sanctuary - Edit
"Alternative" atmosphere -- punk & metal playing, sci fi movie posters, show flyers, goth candle holders, a clever menu describing creative dishes in darker tongue-in-cheek terms,... We enjoyed it completely as 2 aging punkers & metalheads. The food was AWESOME. Tater tots are somewhat trendy these days but theirs were extra interesting with a poutin spin. The tofu croquettes were decadent. Their tahini dressing is super yummy. We skipped dessert but took donuts & a pecan bar with us. (That pecan bar was a little piece of heaven.)

Cons: BYOB (beer shop within walking distance), cash only (ATM conveniently by bathrooms), parking can be tricky as it's street parking only

A super neat atmosphere with a plant based menu - Edit
Very nice experience at Onion Maiden’s Saturday Brunch.
Read moreA super quick, straightforward menu: bean tacos, grits with tofu and shiitake, waffle with lemon and blueberry, or bagel with cream “cheese” and carrot “lox.” We ended up with everything but the waffle (which on another table looked wonderful) and two donuts. All dishes came with a side of tots and kale salad.
A great meal, perfect portion sizes. Not a “stuff your face” brunch, but a great atmosphere, friendly and personable service, and great food creations.
Small place though, so may want to call ahead if you have a sizable party or want to make sure you have a table.
Also cash only, but an ATM in the back.
Will have to return for their normal menu. If you don’t like awesome restaurants, then don’t come here 😜
Pros: Very unique menu and atmosphere, VEGAN DONUTS
Cons: Small place...call ahead

My family of four finished every single bite of our delicious veggie dogs and nachos and then returned for delicious cupcakes - both flavors we tried were amazing. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant!

punny & delicious! - Edit
We loved this place! Just passing through Pittsburgh for one night only, so had to be choosy about our dinner & breakfast the next day. So glad we chose this for our dinner option! The menu is simple but covers all bases. The plates are all perfectly medium-sized to get a few different things. We got the Munster mash cheese plate, nacho tots, kale salad, straight to hell rice noodle bowl, and dumplings and a cheesecake which were specials. The cheese plate was awesome! Two faux-deviled eggs, mini baguette, nice sharp cheese blob, apple slices. We loved the cheese & the eggs, weirdly! They were so cool! The kale salad has croutons & a sweetish miso dressing and was so good but only if you like chewing on kale! The nacho-style tots were amazing, love the lentil chili and cheese. The noodle bowl was just eh, but the cheesecake was delicious with beet, strawberry and rose purée. If we lived nearby we’d come all the time!

I've been a ridiculous amount of times. The coffins are heaven. The vegan spring rolls, and egg rolls are delicious. The deviled eggs are a marvel.

YUM - Edit
This place was so amazingly delicious. The cheese plate was crazy good! We started with steam buns which had this crazy hoisin mushroom filling that had a really unique texture and ended with the "coffins: which is a scallion pancake taco. I loved the chewy texture of the scallions and the steamed kale was shockingly addictive. Wish I lived in Pittsburgh - I'd eat here all the time!

LOVE this place! - Edit
Long-time fan of Onion Maiden's! So impressed with the new restaurant...although I will still always be a bit obsessed with their hot dogs and tots, everything else that I've tried on the new menu is incredible. You have to try the McMaiden Sandwich on their brunch menu. If I could eat that every single day, I would!
Read moreAnd although the restaurant is a small space, the owners have managed to make it both cozy and cool, and is somewhere I definitely want to spend lots more time. Had the same server each time and she is extremely friendly and helpful!! Will be back again and again! So happy that Pittsburgh has some legit vegan spots opening up so that vegans and even meat-eaters can enjoy some plant-based food.
Pros: Absolutely delicious 100% vegan food, Super friendly service, Will impress your omni friends

Great Experience - Edit
I had dinner at Onion Maiden on a recent trip to Pittsburgh and was quite pleased. For starters, they had some specials available and we tried the smoked rangoons, which where so good, definitely the best thing we tried. I had the coffins and my husband tried the headbanger balls. We both preferred the coffins, which were quite interesting (not very taco like, but the scallion pancake was tasty albeit oily and the jackfruit was really good in it). The portions were appropriate, but not large; I think splitting an appetizer to accompany the meal was the way to go.
Read moreFor dessert, they offer vegan cheesecakes, doughnuts, and terrormisu. Everything sounded great, but we couldn't pass up the doughnut display. We got a couple to eat for breakfast the next morning that were quite good (I don't remember their names, but one was a pb&j style and was was filled with almond cream and topped with white choc. matcha drizzle).
My only complaint (and this is minor), is that they only accept cash. They have an ATM onsite, so it's not a big deal, but I incur significant bank fees taking money out of a different bank's ATM, so it's a little annoying.
Pros: Creative 100% vegan menu, Smoked Rangoons!!!, Vegan doughnuts!
Cons: Cash only

Fun and funky offerings - Edit
I enjoyed the fun and funky offerings here are Onion Maiden. I opted for the Munster Mash and Coffins. The cashew cheese on the Munster Mash board was so delicious. I also liked the coffins, although the "taco shell" was a bit on the oily side for my liking. That said, the food overall was excellent, and I enjoyed both my dishes as well as the few bites I had of my friends' meals. In addition to great food, this was also a cool place to hang out with interesting decor.
