Serves meat, vegan options available. Pub and restaurant located on the riverside. Has a couple of vegan starters, mains and desserts all clearly labelled on the main menu. Open Mon-Sat 12:00-21:30, Sun 12:00-21:00.
I went for a 3 course Christmas meal here with friends and was originally excited based on the menu choice, despite only one option per course for VE.
I had winter soup/minestrone for starter which was nice, followed by a mushroom bourguignon wellington. The Wellington itself was nice, however when I was handed the plate and it had a meat pig in blanket. I asked for the meal to be checked if it was vegan, they came back and had taken the sausage off of the plate and I was told and assured that the meal was vegan, even after double, triple checking.
I was very skeptical as there was a Yorkshire pudding on my plate (which I only ate some of it as it looked very different from my Omni friends plates, but looking back really doubtful it was VE). I was also served a gravy boat with what I am sure was meat gravy. Before realising I had poured it on my food. I had asked the waitress for some more as it was only a small portion originally served with the food. She then brought back a new gravy boat with a gravy that looked completely different than the one I had just poured all over my plate and told me that there was specifically a vegan only gravy. The alarm bells rang...
Veg was boiled mush, roast potatoes were rock hard and hollow. Carrots were the only other saving grace. I also wouldn't be surprised if the parsnips had honey on them.
The pudding was a lemoncello raspberry tart which honestly was horrible. It was warm, underset, rock hard pastry and sour freeze dried raspberries with a sickly sweet strawberry sauce drizzled all over. I am also certain I was served dairy ice cream as it did not taste like coconut (I was told the vegan option was coconut based)
I left most of the food from the main and pudding and I will not be going back. It was very disappointing.
I wanted to trust the chefs/waiters but it was clearly a lack of better judgement. I went home with awful stomach pains which I have only had from consuming dairy before going vegan. I'm not sure if it was just due to a lack of understanding what veganism is, laziness or that they were just rushing to get the food out. It is just a good job I don't have any allergies.
I cannot comment on the normal menu, it might be better. But I will not be chancing my luck with it
