Serves meat, vegan options available. Menu provides English descriptions and offers a few vegan items including mains, salads and sides. Rare opportunity to try vegan version of local Uzbek "plov" (a national dish). Be sure to discuss ingredients with the owner, who speaks good English. Reservations recommended, as restaurant tends to be fully booked by groups at peak meal times. Open Mon-Sun 10:00am-11:00pm.

Good and easy - Edit
Very friendly staff with good english, menu has some vegetarian and vegan options (lot of salads, plow and manti seemed vegan - ask for no egg in plow & ask for confirmation). Not very crowed but we visited at 4PM.

Happy to find a Uzbek veg friendly place - Edit
Place was lovely, had several Uzbek dishes with were vegetarian or vegan. We had the Plov which was vegan and tasty, and the Shilpildok (which comes with yoghurt, but it can be left out if you ask), and the elixir salad (with beetroot). All tasty and happy I found options I could eat. Staff is really friendly and helpful. We paid €13 in total including drink.

Decent for Uzbekistan - Edit
Knowing Uzbekistan is a hard country for vegan food, we know a good option is to get Lobio, Lavash, and a salad and then put it all together for a burrito-style meal that’s pretty tasty (kid approved). They also had somsa, and lagman. Just make sure to tell them your preferences since veganism isn’t well understood in the country nor is it common. We came late at night which means they ran out of the vegetarian plov which was really disappointing since that was the reason we came to the restaurant (not near many of the tourist sites).

Vegan/vegetarian choice and kind staff - Edit
Staff was really kind and helpful. We had a good and fresh salad (apple, carrots and raisins), a passable vegetarian somsa (small portion with not much filling in it) and very good and light vegetarian dumplings.

Questionably vegetarian - Edit
We went to this restaurant as it had good reviews. I ordered the “vegetarian” lagman (noodle dish in some kind of soup with vegetables), for which the waiter ensured that is vegetarian, long story short, I found two pieces of meat. Since the dish came very quick, I doubt they had the time to make a separate vegetable soup stock. I assume they serve the “vegetarian” lagman by just picking out the meat from the ordinary lagman. The other side dishes we ordered were also not particularly good. We left with very bad aftertaste.

Great place to eat in a strong meat cultural country - Edit
The restaurant is nice with an outside and inside (w/ AC) location to eat. If vegetarian or vegan, precise it to the owner who will prepare a tailor made vegetarian or vegan Plov, the national Ouzbek dish. Others VG dishes were available: samsas, salads, etc. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating.

Vegetarian plov and other Uzbek receipes adaptations - Edit
Lot of vegetarian options and it's not vegetables salad but Uzbek traditional receipes adaptation. The owner is very nice and will take care of you. I really advice this restaurant and I tried the vegetarian plov, samsa and mantu.

Vegan… but not really! - Edit
The owner is very friendly and helpful, but the «vegan» lagman we ordered came with two small pieces of meat in it, which seems to corroborate the suspicion raised by the reviewer below that the meat is simply removed before serving. We were also not 100% sure about the broth of the two soups we ordered - despite the owner’s insistence that these were vegan…

Be careful - Edit
I ordered the veg plov, and it arrived after 3 minutes, i highly doubt they had prepared a vegan version of plov. And the color it had and everything looked like it was cooked with meat, just removed... disgusting experience. I also ordered the manti, but who can trust now...

Great food - Edit
We had a tasty Laghman here (vegan) as well as a veggie stew and the somsa. We also asked if he could prepare us a vegan bean salad (the owner speaks English and knows veganism) and the beans came with garlic, dill and oil, finally something a bit different than the cucumber-tomato-combination!

Good experience overall - Edit
I told the owner, who speaks good English and is nice, that i found the establishment on happy cow and i am vegan he immediately gave me about 5 options of veganizable dishes they can make for me. I got the veggie stew, dumplings, samsa, traditional bread, and a salad. The portions are a bit on the smaller size, the filling for everything was just potato, and the service is slow but I'm just happy to have found traditional foods, veganized i guess.

Good enough - Edit
The food isn’t especially good, but if you tell them you’re vegan, they will offer a bunch of options. We had plov, samosas and some kind of potato dish.

The best on offer in town - Edit
They staff here was very nice to us and helped us come up with several vegan options. The food was ok but nothing to write home about, like most stuff for vegans in this region of the world, unfortunately!

Best veggie place in Samarkanda - Edit
Finally a place in Samarkanda where you can eat without worrying if your meal has meat on it or not!
Read moreI asked into many restaurants if they had any vegetarian meal but they didn't. In some of them I asked if they could serve a plov without meat, but the result wasn't too good.. you can find meat anyway on it.
We ordered a soup and a salad for starters and dumplings and a kind of crepe (both plates taste really similar). It was really nice though!
Pros: Cheap, Cozy, Salad menu
Cons: Service quite slowly as they have a lot of groups, Not in the city centre

Hidden gem of Uzbekistan - Edit
Uzbekistan is the least vegan friendly country I've visited. Finding this place (thanks to Happy Cow) made my stay in Samarcand so much better as finally I could go to a restaurant with options to choose from. In the menu they have 6 or 5 vegan dishes there is a separate menu for salads. It is a home made food, nothing exquisite but very tasty. The place is very cozy, with a fireplace and the staff is very kind. I don't think you can find any better place in Samarcand.

Best restaurant in town, especially for vegans - Edit
During my stay in lovely Samarkand, I tried every restaurant that seemed to have a chance of being vegan-friendly, and the clear winner was Old City Restaurant.
Read moreOld City's menu includes the largest variety of vegetarian dishes I found in Samarkand. Nothing is specifically marked vegan on the menu, but many of the dishes can be prepared vegan. The friendly proprietor speaks English and will happily discuss ingredients with you and tell you which dishes can be prepared without dairy products.
I highly recommend trying the "plov" here, not only because it's a national dish of Uzbekistan and can be prepared vegan, but also because it's absolutely delicious here, prepared with baked apple, roasted garlic, and raisins.
There are also good vegan samsas (Uzbek cousin of Indian samosas), dumplings (similar to potstickers/gyoza/momos), and plenty of salads that can be made vegan. I've uploaded pix of the menu to give you a sense of what's available.
Both the service and the atmosphere are warm and welcoming. It's a very nice dining experience. Prices are reasonable.
The place often fills up at dinner time, so reservations are advisable.
Recommended! Enjoy!
Pros: Most vegan-friendly place in town (2018), delicious vegan plov, warm and helpful service
Cons: Serves meat
