Amazing food! - Edit
Delicious authentic food. So much flavour, and always eat too much as we want to try lots. Default is vegetarian but most can be vegan. Spice level clearly marked. Our favourite place to take friends/family when they visit.

Really very good food but felt a bit expensive (that’s Cambridge!). It was really nice to be able to get a vegan Indian dessert and lassi.

Vegan options at Namaste. - Edit
Upon arrival at our booking time, we were shown to our seats by a friendly member of the team. Our order was taken, and our food arrived roughly 15-20 minutes after having our poppadoms. The bill came to 58 quid, which I think is steep for what we had. The food, however, can't be faulted.

The food is delicious and top quality! My non-vegan friends were impressed. Take away delivery is well packed and good portions.

Very nice dinner - Edit
I ordered online, the food came on time. I took a vegetable biryani medley that I could add to be made vegan, and a vegan butter Naan. It was really good, although the Chana massala from the medley was too spicy for my usual taste. Maybe it could have been been indicated as very spicy! The price are correct.

Abundance of choice! - Edit
Great food, lovely atmosphere. It is so exciting as a vegan to have a naan or a korma as an option. My favourite is their chilli cauliflower dish; it is absolutely phenomenal!

Very friendly staff, great food with so many vegan options including vegan naan breads. I also attended one of their cookery schools which was fun and informative, essentially regarding the ethos behind their cooking and use of ingredients.

Extensive, clearly marked vegan options - Edit
Lots of vegan options, clearly marked on the menu. We enjoyed everything we ordered though careful as the spice level is significant even for veterans of spicy food 😅 four stars only because the bill was quite expensive and we did not appreciate the 12.5% service charge added to the bill. We understand you can ask them to take it off but that’s just awkward. There were only 2 of us so it’s not like we were a large group. That is done in poor taste and would strongly recommend they stop doing that. Let the customer decide what tip to leave, particularly if it is discretionary.

Not so good - Edit
Used Namaste for a take away thinking that being vegetarian it will have good vegan options, but the quality was disappointed, we had much better Indian food from places in Cambridge that weren't vegetarian/vegan. Needless to say we won't use them again.

Not brilliant for one's non-vegetarian friends - Edit
The naturally vegan or veggie food was fine, but a common feeling among other diners was that the 'fake' food wasn't really that great. So, depends who's going...

Tasty food - Edit
The food was excellent, we tried onion bhajis (very crispy), a very good masala dosa, veg biriyani, makhani dhal (excellent) and bombay aloo. The service was quick and attentive.
Read moreOn the down side it was expensive - we were charged £7.30 for two glasses of sparkling water! Also there were additional charges for pickles and chutney to accompany the pappadams which I have never seen before.
Overall though, it was a lovely meal and will probably go back again.

Vegan naan - Edit
Visited for a family meal recently, and we all really enjoyed our food. There are great vegan options on the menu, including vegan naan (always a bonus), and they were also helpful with advising about intolerances.

Incredible vegan selection and allergy conscious - Edit
We had an amazing experience here. Vegan / vegan alterations clearly marked on the menu, and there’s a huge variety available. A lot of the naan are vegan which was a lovely surprise! We had the starter sharing platter, naan basket, and popadums between us and the tadka daal made as a main. All were flavourful and satisfying. They were also very cautious and accommodating of my nut allergy which put me at ease. Overall would recommend, I can’t wait to go back and try more!

Delicious & beautiful vegan options - Edit
Very nice staff & lovely presentation of food. Our table enjoyed the breaded 'shrimp', onion bajee, popcorn 'chicken', & the very pretty Surti papdi chaat. Masala dosa was extra crispy & delicious. Tadka daal went perfectly with the Roti. The warm vegan Rose & Cardamom milk was a unique & delicious drink. You can also pay a meal forward to help someone in need to get a meal directly from the restaurant. Looking forward to trying many more of their options in the future...

Some of the best Indian food in Cambridge - Edit
I'd go back for the vegan rose lassi. The jackfruit biryani was also incredibly moreish, with bite-sized chunks of crunchy jackfruit. The vegan mock-chicken jalfrezi was also nice, with thin slivers of aubergine increasing the visual appeal.
Read moreI enjoyed the naan, but it was weaker than the above, as was the rose tea.
It was really nice to see lots of dishes, including some unfamiliar ones, and I'm glad to finally have a purely vegetarian Indian restaurant in Cambridge.
When I went, service was quick and friendly. The food also arrived very quickly. It was quiet, despite there being some other patrons there at the same time - this is a rarity in Cambridge.
Vegan dishes and dishes that can be vegan are marked. The menu is incredibly clear; it's divided into sections, and individual dishes are marked for nuts, whether they can be vegan, spice level, etc.
It's easy to spend 20-30 GBP a person, even without alcohol. This seems like a reasonable match for the location and quality of food.
Pros: Really delicious, with an exciting, varied menu, Vegan and vegan-option dishes clearly marked, Easy way to donate meals shown on menu
Cons: Somewhat pricy

Nice to have vegan options - Edit
It's nice to have a dedicated vegi/vegan restaurant in Cambridge. The location is great. Unfortunately there is an additional vegan price on some dishes. There is a lot of choice on the menu which is great. Food was tasty - we had two starters, two mains, rice and naan between two which was all very filling. We didn't have a reservation and the restaurant was super busy on a Friday night but the staff found space for us.

Lacking in ambience - Edit
The food was fine - I really enjoyed the ‘chicken’ korma but the rest was quite average and the naan was quite flat, almost like a chapati.
Read moreWe were seated upstairs and it was really cold, and very bright so completely lacking in ambience. The service wasn’t particularly good, nothing wrong as such, just could have been better. For example, they didn’t clear the dirty plates from the starters before bringing the mains, and they didn’t offer more drinks when we finished them.
So I probably won’t go back, despite wanting to support vegan restaurants in Cambridge.
Pros: Korma was tasty, All vegan or vegetarian
Cons: Cold, bright and lacking in ambience, Service not great

Excellent veg Indian - Edit
In addition to the usual vegan dishes found at Indian restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised to find vegan versions of dishes that would generally not be vegan.

Hit and miss food and very expensive - Edit
We went shortly after they opened on a Friday night. Table of two in the window - you can watch people ascending Castle "hill"! We were the only ones in the restaurant to start with and the service was excellent and prompt. We aren't drinkers, even of soft drinks, so we had tap water and ordered the Onion Bhajis starter (VG) , Shrimp chef's special (VG), Jackfruit Biriyani (VG) and a coconut Naan (with the VO). We normally order too much food so we were careful not to be too greedy!
Read moreWe had asked for everything at once, but the bhajis arrived first and it was evident nothing else was forthcoming. They were crispy and flavoursome, I have crappy teeth so found them too hard but my partner enjoyed the crunch! They had a spicy/creamy sauce with them and some red cabbage.
The Shrimp was really disappointing, it was a few mock shrimp bits in a very thin and runny sauce. There wasn't very much spice or fragrance to it either. For £13.45 we were expecting so much more, it doesn't even come with rice or anything. It was a tiny portion of sadness. At least they don't charge extra for this as it's already vegan but still way too much.
The deconstructed Biriyani was much tastier, there was a great depth of flavour and came with a mint raita. However, only a couple of pieces of jackfruit and about 10 chickpeas, literally. Again, it was a tiny portion and that isn't an exaggeration. Nothing like what you'd get from a traditional Indian, more the size of a tasting menu dish.
Naan bread was probably the best bit, really tasty, a good size and evenly spread filling. There is a 39p vegan tax on it though. Not sure we agree or understand that at all.
Toilets are upstairs. The mens were grubby and needed a good clean. Fans were full of dirt etc. Ladies had a big sliding door that was hard to open.
Will we go again, no unfortunately not. We love supporting a mostly vegan restaurant and would encourage them to go 100% vegan and at least avoid taxing people for avoiding cruelty which is kind of perverse. But we left feeling hungry after spending £35 and one of the mains was really lacking, seriously don't get the shrimp!
Pros: Great service, Nice music/vibe
Cons: Small portions, Vegan tax

Slow service and food was more miss than hit - Edit
It pains me to leave a 2* review but unfortunately we cannot give it more than this. We walked in on a Wednesday evening and it was quite quiet. We got a table no problem and after looking at the menus for a bit we decided to have a strawberry mojito mock tail and some tap water and to order some popadoms with dip, the vegan prawns for starters along with the onion bahji.
Read moreFor mains we ordered vegan chicken korma, vegan butter chicken, rice, garlic naan, gunpowder potatoes, and the makani daal.
The mock tail arrived at the same time as the popadoms, the mock tail was actually quite nice. The prawns were nice but the onion bahjis were over cooked and very dry, I could only eat one and then my partner ate the other two using the sauce that came with the prawns. Our water then arrives. The table of four next to us then orders their food. We wait. The table of four next to us then receives their food (it’s probably worth pointing out that they ordered onion bahjis and they didn’t look like ours at all) Our main food arrives and it was just okay.
When the bill arrived we saw that they charge you more to have the vegan option of any food - around 79p more per dish. Overall based on the service, the food, and the price, we would not recommend Namaste.

Great food, so much choice! - Edit
Recently visited and was lovely to have so much choice as a veggie at a restaurant. Had a bit of a false start as the table we booked had been given to someone else, but it was dealt with really well by staff who had us seated in 5 mins and delivered fantastic service from that point on. Really delicious flavours, very busy considering it's only recently opened, great location just out of town and would overall recommend giving it a try.
