Vegan options were an afterthought - Edit
Found this place on the HappyCow app and it was one of the few places that was open at 9am and stated that they offered coffee and vegan pastries.
Read moreLets start with the coffee. We should’ve know better once we saw their espresso machine tucked in a nook area. You can tell it doesn’t get much use there. We ordered a salted caramel latte and mocha, both oat milk. They were both very quick to make, so that’s where my worry started. First sip, no foam on my latte, bummer, and my boyfriend’s mocha tasted like warm chocolate milk. Next up, the sweet factor was pretty bad. You could feel it coat your teeth in sugar. The coffee itself was pretty weak also and in the end it just tasted sickly sweet oat milk with a splash of coffee and chocolate milk.
Now for the vegan pastries. I looked around for a bit in their case, but only saw row after row of savory meat and cheese filled pastries, cupcakes and cakes. Finally I noticed that they shoved the vegan and gluten cupcakes on the side on a bookshelf. They were not refrigerated (unlike everything else they offered) and only three options were available; vanilla, caramel apple and pumpkin spice. After examining them, they seemed to be at least a day old and the one flavor of cupcake (pumpkin spice) was collapsing on itself. Once she noticed, she quickly removed them to the back. None of them looked appealing to me so I passed.
My boyfriend, who is not fully vegan, got a savory cream cheese and jalapeño pocket and a slice of seven layer cake. The pocket was described as pure oil and was not very good. He just had some of the seven layer cake and he said it was interesting, but way too sweet. Sickly sweet was mentioned. He was quite bummed, but stated he could never finish it and since it wasn’t vegan I wasn’t able to help him with it. He instead put it in the trash. I have never seen him put leftovers in the trash, so that’s a huge tell for me.
The gal running the counter was pleasant enough, but I could tell she was just going through the motions and no extra effort was made during the interaction. She also seemed a bit confused that someone was looking for vegan goodies.
Price wise, very expensive for both the lackluster coffee and oily pastry and cake. It was close to $30!
Perhaps they were having an off day, but unfortunately, neither my boyfriend or I would visit this expensive and lackluster bakery again.
Cons: Expensive , Slim vegan options
