Vegan café

A modern, vegan café that also serves savoury dishes. Availability of meals depends what time of the day it is. Lunch is until 3pm, afterwards the choice of dishes is limited. Sadly many dishes were no longer on offer.
Homemade lemonade was very nice. Pancakes were tasty too.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: Limited menu

Dissapointed!

Showed up after grabbing dinner elsewhere to try their dessert. Tried to order a 1100 yen ice cream sundae to split with my partner but was turned away because they have a 1 item minimum per person rule.

The restaurant was less than half full. When we told them that we only wanted the sundae to split, we were turned away. Dissapointing because we were planning on coming back the following day for lunch but instead opted to go to one of the many other vegan restaurants in Kyoto as a result.

Relaxed atmosphere and good food

Really nice vegan place with tasty food. I had a rice baked stew thing with broccoli, asparagus and some kind of vegan cheese. Really enjoyed it! Only con was that many things on the menu were marked “not available” so it was not so many dishes to choose between.

A lot to choose from

A nice place with good and fast service and a variety of things to choose from. Everything seemed vegan to me.

A vegan must eat!

Fantastic stop for families! They have a kids area with toys and books so the kids can play while you wait for food. It’s a great break for them while traveling and walking so much. Nice bathrooms, amazing sweets! English menu.

Pros: Bathrooms, Tasty vegan food, Kid friendly

Cons: No take out

Not bad but not amazing

Went to this place based off of the great reviews but were a little bit disappointed. Tiny tiny portions for dinner and not cheap (most expensive place we've been so far in Japan) we had the tofu burgers and got 12 chips each which we felt was a bit stingy! Burger patty was too small for the bun so you're left with a lot of bread. Tasted fine but nothing special. Wouldn't recommend as I think there are much better places.

Cons: Tiny portions, expensive

Fine but a let down

This place was kind of a let down. We had high expectations due to the reviews, but weren’t impressed. The food was good but not phenomenal. The fact that they were out of the first 3 things we tried to order probably didn’t help. And it wasn’t even that late!

Fresh ingredients & delicious combos

I can highly recommend the lunch plate, which was 100% vegan and 100% delicious. They use fresh ingredients with a unique Japanese twist and you can pick the warm tofu part yourself. Great atmosphere and the dessert options are to die for.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great atmosphere, Fresh ingredients

Cons: On the expensive side, Early closing time

Delicious

After seeing reviews for how busy it could be we went a little bit later than dinner rush and were able to get a seat straight away. The taco bowl was yum and had lots of comfort food options. We got the cheesecake too which was very good. Priced relatively well and the atmosphere was warm and calming.

Not worth the long wait

Every time I’ve been to Mumokuteki I’ve had to wait over 30minutes, often over an hour, to be seated even when there were plenty of seats available. This wouldn’t be a problem if they informed you the wait length, but their airwait doesn’t work and we were left uninformed for almost 90 minutes. When we asked we were just told to wait a little longer. Having eaten here before I can say the food isn’t bad, but it certainly isn’t worth waiting over an hour with poor customer service. Another bad point is that they use fish stock in many dishes. There are better restaurants in Kyoto.

Pros: Vegan options, Good parfait

Cons: Long wait, Poor customer service

Disappointing

Based on the good reviews here and on my Lonely Planet guide I was expecting more from this place. The food that I had was greasy and not very special.

五辛餐點種類多樣

大部分餐點含有五辛,僅兩樣餐點可去五辛。味增湯類湯底皆含有魚類成分,需多加注意!

Was expecting more but still good

Had a nice meal although was expecting more from the reviews. Had the katsu dinner set. Seemed to be almost a deconstructed Katsu Curry. All the individual elements tasted great.

Pros: Friendly staff, Nice location, Tasted healthy

Disappointing:(

After reading all the fantastic reviews on here (and Trip advisor) i was really disappointed with my meal of “Bowl of rice lokomoko style healthy tofu burger on top”. It didn’t taste fresh, was only warm in temperature, lacked flavour and was definitely not filling enough for a dinner sized meal.

Spicy wedges had a really nice flavour but were soggy rather than crunchy, as I expected them to be.

We arrived at 7:45pm, last orders were at 8pm and our dinner was served in 5 mins - was this the reason I had a below average meal?

Would definitely not recommend.

FYI - Cash only.

Great place

I love the atmosphere in this place and the food is great. Have been here many times, especially due to the great location in Teramachi Street. Portions (especially the burger) could be a bit bigger for the price though.

My favorite restaurant in Kyoto

I am so glad I found this place, it is one of my favorite spots in the whole city because it’s not only a restaurant but they also have an adorable shop area with vintage style clothing on the first floor. I loved being able to eat traditional dishes that are vegan.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Great atmosphere , Good portions and delicious

Cons: Tad pricey

Delicious tofu burger! (note: cash only)

The lokomoko plate was amazing - with vegan burger patties over rice and what tasted like egg salad. Highly recommend! Be careful of some fish stock in soups, etc. the restaurant notes in the menu though (and has English menu to make things easier!) also had the ramen which was great. Wish we had room for the vegan tiramisu but we were fully stuffed!

Pros: Great environment

Cons: Cash only

Little bit of a wait but only 10-15 minutes after going upstairs and reserving a table. The staff was very friendly and spoke some English. Lovely area with other vegan restaurants and things to do. One of my favourite areas In japan.

Pros: Amazing vegan food with gluten free options. , Great area. , Really nice restaurant environment.

Cons: Short wait. , Small burger sizes.

Delicious!

A bit of a wait as they were quite busy (on a Tuesday at lunch time) but it was so worth it! Had the tofu burger and honestly was one of the best vegan patties I’ve ever had in my life! Not enough chips on the side for me though but that’s a personal preference. Really good food, good vibes and friendly staff. Lots to choose from too which was nice I had the hardest time deciding what to get! Any dishes with fish stock were clearly marked. Would go back if I was in Kyoto again definitely.

Pros: Lots of options , Delicious

Cons: Can be busy but worth the wait

I love this place. It's massive and fits a ton of people. The interior had a lot of charm and atmosphere. The menu was large and they clearly marked anything that had fish stock. I highly recommend this place!!

Pros: tasted fantastic , lots of options , oozes charm

Cons: fish stock (clearly labled)
