Great food, great atmosphere! - Edit
The service was on point and the food as well. Also not to pricey but loaded with lots of umami and flavor.

Hands down favourite bowl of ramen - Edit
We got the sesame miso soy ramen and the sichuan style tan-tan noodle. My best friend and I both agreed this was our top restaurant during our trip. Would’ve gone back if we spent the night in Kyoto.

super tasty! - Edit
I've eaten here before I turned vegan, about 3 years ago and I really liked it but found it really weird because I we all new to the whole vegetarian substitutes and such. This time I knew a lot more and both me and my partner really enjoyed our food. I took a dish that said it had fish stock in it and asked if I could get it without and the waiter said they made a version without it for people who wanted and that I would get a buillion soup instead of miso. So even if it says it contains fish, ask if they can make it without!

Good food, closes early - Edit
Now entirely vegan restaurant in central Kyoto.
Read moreAbout the food:
Good food. Been there several times and had a tasty tofu-burger don (see picture) for 950 yen (L-size). Doria was very good, made with soy milk and coconut flakes to add some crustiness. Ramen is okay but doesn’t have a strong flavour - mostly tasted like coconut milk really - and sadly uses spaghetti instead of ramen noodles. Tofu cheese cake tasted really good but looked brown instead of white.
Other:
There is an English menu.
I like the interior. Very cosy, but with lots of space. The cutest place is meant for families and if you don't bring kids you're not allowed in, not even if the rest of the restaurant is full. It's often full at noon so go early or be prepared to wait for 30 minutes .

The happycow page says takeout but I asked them and they said they cannot do any takeout. Food was not bad though. Also I wish they would stay open longer (their last order is 16:30 weekends, 17:30 weekdays)

Every item was delicious - Edit
My husband and I each ordered from the set menu. I had the katsu set, and he had the special for only a few hundred yen more. For that he got to try the katsu, hamburger and karaage. Sets came with miso, gyoza, rice, and two sides of pickles. Each item was delicious. Deserts were good, but couldn't compete with the mains. Coffee was also good. It was easy to book a table using the computer system downstairs, and staff were friendly.

Mumokuteki Cafe is a must visit in Kyoto. Read on to find out why:
For starters, the restaurant is spacious and cosy at the same time. Beautifully decorated and has a chill vibe.
The food is amazing— and it’s all vegan! It’s a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for here. We sprung for the gozen (set menu) that features katsu, karaage, and hamburg steak. It came with a few side dishes and uncommonly delicious brown rice. It tasted a lot like my Japanese mother-in-law’s cooking, which is a VERY good thing. The New York cheesecake was amazing too.
To top it all off, the staff is super friendly and everything is spotlessly clean. We
can’t recommend Mumokuteki Cafe enough!

Tiramisu - Edit
I ordered on ubereats and was totally impressed by the place. The food arrived in less than half an hour, it was warm and the salad was fresh. I had the locomoco, the patty was nice, but the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. Their tiramisu is the best vegan tiramisu I ever had (it's also gluten free!). Proper coffee-soaked sponge and light and fluffy creme.

This place is super delicious! I tried the ramen, burger lunch plate, and Katsu lunch plate. The vegetables are really fresh and it’s all just so good. I also ate the vegan ice cream with nuts and raspberries, which was wonderful. I always go here whenever I come to Kyoto.

I had the hamburger steak with various vegetables. Everything tasted very good, but I before ordering I did not get that everything except the hamburger and the soup would be cold. Since I would have prefered a hot dish that was a bit a downer.

Mumokuteki has interesting dishes and nice ambiance. I enjoyed my meal there, but wasn't overly impressed with the food/value, therefore 4 stars feels appropriate. I didn't buy anything, but like pursuing the attached grocery store with had lots of speciality items.

Decent dessert - Edit
Couldn’t find an abundance of dessert spots in Kyoto so had to try this out. Was alright if you feel like something sweet. A bit expensive for what it is. Ice cream was nice and creamy and enjoyed the tiramisu. Cheesecake was alright also, not too sweet which I enjoyed.

Beautiful space but flavours lacking in burger meal. Small portions & overpriced for the taste. The matcha icecream dessert was super intense with the matcha jellies and sauce. Not very balanced with the components of the dishes.

Food yum, drinks and dessert AMAZING - Edit
Ate here for lunch. Pretty much the entire menu is vegan minus one or two options which contain honey (clearly marked). Primarily Asian style cuisines (rice, salad and soy) which are yum. Drinks were amazing (especially the chocolate soft serve OMG). And of course the deserts were amazing. Be sure to eat here to support vegan business 🌱✌🇯🇵
