Lives up to the hype - Edit
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Beware that the burgers come with fries, you don't have to order a side of (delicious) dirty fries. Oops.

A wee gem - Edit
I've been here a couple of times and the food is always amazing. Their lunch menu is particularly good. I'm still dreaming about the falafel burger and loaded fries. The coffee is also great and they do the best chai latte I've ever had.
Read moreIt's small but very spacious and dog friendly which is always appreciated. The decor is lovely and I love the plants and cookbooks they have available for purchase.
My only wish is they would fully commit to a vegan menu as all their breakfast items contain eggs and cheese.

Moka - Edit
A lovely vegetarian/ vegan cafe. I had a delicious turmeric latte and some incredibly tasty tacos. My husband had a morning roll with vegan haggis, sausage and black pudding, which he really enjoyed. They also had a good-looking selection of cakes.

Good choice of food - Edit
We regularly eat at Moka and enjoy having somewhere local with good vegan choices (the majority of the menu is vegetarian, but there are also vegan dishes and lots of vegan cakes). All the staff are welcoming, and there are books and plants on display to purchase too.

Hearty fare - Edit
We travelled here on our way home from Ayr to Fife. Cheekily parked I. The Asda carpark nearby.
Read moreBreakfast was substantial, although I wasn't keen in the black pudding, everything else was demolished. Wife has tacos which were very filling.
Loads of vegan and veggie cookbooks for sale, which we had a scan of the ones we didn't have.
All cakes are vegan, as well as pastries. Plenty people came in for takeaway while we were there and we left with cakes for later as we were too full for onsite cake
Pros: Filling portions, Cool decor
Cons: Not much parking, but Asda is close

Very nice! - Edit
I stopped by during a long cycling trip and I wish I came in hungry... but I still managed to have an amazing dessert, great smoothie and a coffee.
Read moreI had mixed berry waffles with chocolate and ice cream (all vegan) and they were delicious.
When out and about in Scotland, especially in smaller towns, I don't exactly have high hopes for good vegan food. This was a lovely surprise and I'm glad I found the place, I'm sure I'll visit again!
Pros: very tasty!, nice relaxed vibe, did I mention very tasty?

Omg YUM - Edit
I got the cauli tacos...oh my god they were DELICIOUS! I cannot recommend them enough, super fresh, full of pickled red onion and coriander and the entire thing was just bursting with flavour. The chips were delicious too! It was a huge portion, my eyes were popping out my head when the girl brought them over. Definitely value for money, in my opinion anyway for such fresh, tasty food (£10 with the chips included). I got a decaf vanilla soya latte too and it was perfect, really hot which is always ideal.
Read moreThey made my dog very welcome, she had access to water, and a wee space to herself because the cafe is actually huge! I was worried I wouldn't get a seat as I thought it was tiny for some reason but when I walked in I was really surprised. It's bright and spacious and has plants EVERYWHERE which is just gorgeous (they're all for sale too!).
I didn't get a cake because I was stuffed, but they all looked incredible in the pastry display cabinet. Loads of cakes but also loads of pastries like pain au chocolat, croissants etc. I think the only one not vegan was the pecan plait thing. So plenty of choice. I will 100% be returning!

Brilliant Local Cafe - Edit
This is my local go to place when I want to eat out for lunch. It’s the only solely vegetarian and vegan place for miles and a real asset to the area.
Read moreI’ve had just about every vegan item on the menu and it’s always been great, personal fave is the cauli tacos, just fab. The coffee is also very good if that’s your thing. It’s dog friendly too if you are passing through or visiting Arran (the ferry terminal is just round the corner). If you want lunch bear in mind it’s only open till 3 so come early. If you don’t know the area it has very limited parking on the street outside so best to go round the corner to Asda and walk back round.

Loads of vegan choice - Edit
It's fantastic that Moka had a steady stream of visitors when I was there on a Tuesday lunchtime, in an area where I'd guess aren't many vegans or vegetarians, nor autumn tourists. Their cakes are clearly marked vegan or not vegan, and menus seem labelled quite clearly but a few notes to make sure you do let staff know your dietary requirements.
Read moreStaff were great, and portions were good value for money. I'm glad I didn't order anything else on top of my loaded fries, I was stuffed. Glad to finally have made it along to Ardrossan, I hope it's not too long before I'm back.

Moka, a great find - Edit
Apart from Glasgow, there are not many purely vegetarian/vegan cafes close to where we are staying. Taking advantage of the hot weather we made the 16 mile journey to Ardrossan for lunch. The menu is fairly small, but offered some good vegan options. We had the mighty burger and falafel burger, both of which were delicious and filling. Vegan cheese is now available. Vegan cakes are available.

Strange mix of vegan and dairy - Edit
Ardrossan isnt a place you expect to find a vegetarian restaurant, no offence! So a benefit of a cancelled ferry was lunch here. I have read some reviews postumously and it seems that they mix dairy into vegan unless you specifically tell them not to e.g i had a vegan burger, but now thinking the cheese slice might have been dairy? My partner ordered tea and it came with dairy milk. I ordered an Americano and it tasted like cheap intant coffee ( the worse coffee i have ever had outwith a machine!). Cakes were nice.

Vegetarian and plant based friendly cafe. Vegan food available but also dairy is served. Plant based milk , veg sausages and veg black pudding although there is also eggs etc. At least there is no meat or fish which is great. A good find in a smallish town. Close to Asda carpark

Avoid if vegan - Edit
If you are vegan or have a food allergy I would avoid this place completely. I ordered the “Isn’t chicken wrap” which stated on the menu with “vegan Mayo and cheese”
Read moreSo to anyone reading this, it is vegan. No they mean vegan Mayo and DAIRY cheese!. Completely misleading customers.
It came out and I started eating this and told the staff member I think it was dairy in the wrap and she said it was. I had asked for the vegan chicken wrap so to me it should never have dairy in it.
Offered to bring me something else but at this point I was disgusted and felt sick.
We got the bill which to my horror they still charged us for the wrap!! Unbelievable
I emailed later to tell management of my experience and got the most unprofessional response ever! I was told it was my fault, I should of made my allergy known to avoid issues. Unreal!
The amount of customers who have probably been tricked into eating dairy is scary. But zero ownership from management. Just blame the customer.
Also when we were there, staff cleaning the tables sprayed all the chemicals over the plant and sugar cubes that sit on the table. So if you’re planning on visiting I’d avoid the sugar in your hot drinks.
Cons: Unprofessional staff, Misleading menu
HappyVegan67
I visit Moka on a semi weekly basis and have done for a while, the staff always ask about dietary requirements and only stock vegan cheese now. I haven’t seen this menu before it must be old, it also doesn’t say that the cheese in the wrap is vegan only the Mayo, I think you misread
Read moreStephen098
They changed the menu after my many emails with them as this was very misleading. My 2 vegan friends ordered the same thing and was tricked. Very misleading, why on earth would you use vegan Mayo and dairy cheese?? Makes no sense

I’ve been visiting for months and never seen this menu, nobody is being tricked nothing is malicious why are you acting as if you were targeted? You are supposed to make staff aware if you are vegan or have dietary requirements anywhere you go

Happened to multiple people. Also the staffs attitude and unprofessionalism in dealing with such complaints made it worse. Just because it’s not happened to you does not give you the right to belittle someone else’s experience. Now get back on your high horse and be careful you don’t fall 👍🏻

I ate there yesterday and assumed that if there was a v beside a dish it was completely vegan. Wouldnt think to ask if all the ingredients were!

Yeah I ordered a vegan wrap and it turned out to have dairy cheese on it. Despite the fact the menu read “vegan Mayo and cheese” which anyone would assume it was vegan cheese? No they meant dairy. When I complained after eating half it the owners took zero responsibility and blamed me.
