Sourdough pizza with a South American twist run by ex-vegans who really get it

As Brooklynites we know pizza. As former Paris residents and frequent visitors, we know Paris restaurants. As decades-long vegans, we’ve had countless meals in vegan-friendly restaurants. I say this not to brag or crow, but simply to give you some context when I assure you that this was possibly the best pizza we’ve ever had and possibly the best meal in Paris we’ve ever had. No joke. For real. Yep. You have to try this place!

Owners Jean-Charles (chef) and Erika (front of house) are the sweetest, most welcoming Franco-Venezuelan couple. They are former vegans who really understand what veganism is all about. They are the first to bring sourdough pizza to Paris, and they do it with a South American flair.

The location is great, right by Père Lachaise and the happening Boulevard de Ménilmontant. The decor is lovely, and the vibe is friendly, laid-back, and familial.

And then there’s the food. Oh, the food.

Lots of fresh fruit juices and cocktails. Excellent wine list with bio/organic options (the Argentine Malbec we had was simply delicious).

Lots is veganizable on the spot, and if you call ahead (they speak fluent Spanish, French, and English), they will really hook your vegan ass up. This is what blew us away:
• Mushroom ceviche with roasted watermelon (it’s not weird; it’s incredible!)
• Cherry tomato and arugula pizza with vegan cheese (so simple and soooo delicious!)
• Chocolate mousse (duuuuuude!)

I can’t imagine anyone not loving Masa Madre. Even our picky youngest kiddo said it was her favorite meal ever. Go. Go tonight. You won’t be disappointed.

Pros: Possibly the best pizza I’ve ever had—no joke. , Possibly the best meal I’ve ever had in Paris—FR!, The greatest owners/staff ever.

Cons: They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. , Should be clear that they are so vegan-friendly.
