Extraordinary food - Edit
Mama is very centrally located and provides a nice view of downtown Reykjavik.
Read moreThere is an esoteric shop beneath it, and I’m certain both restaurant and shop are somehow affiliated, because the vibe is so similar. You find statues Indian deities inside as well as psychedelic pictures for sale.
There are ample herbal teas on the menu.
In short, there are three fixed main dishes (and a changing soup of the week). I had the African-inspired dish, but since I went with two friends, and each of us took a different dish, which I was able to taste, I can speak about all three.
So, all three are flavour explosions in a good way. Ingredients and cooking are visibly high-class. Good portions, too.
I liked the Jamaican dish best (by far) and the daal least. However, it’s really a matter of personal taste.
The local beer tasted absolutely awful, but again, that’s my personal taste. Other people may love it.
At last, the vegan cheesecake - top-notch!! Sadly, it was still pretty frozen. Not sure, why. Would certainly be better not straight out the freezer.
Service flawless.
Praise for the extraordinary dishes.
I would go there again, but not too often, because the flavours are actually too exotic for me to have them frequently.
Four stars, because I kinda disliked the daal (even though I normally love daal) and due to the (still delicious) cake being frozen.

Cozy café near the punk museum - Edit
Not literally down to earth, but I guess some people would describe it as that. Hippie vibe. Colorful environment. Unintelligible music in the background. Cheerful people. Calm like a bomb. Friendliness
Read moreI went for a sandwich, cake and coffee and that cost me 29 euro. Tad expensive because the sandwich wasn’t that big, but I realized once again that I’m in Iceland 🤣. I guess that’s that only downside with this place and most of the other restaurants/bars you visit here. It’s inevitable, but I would go back here as the options in this country are limited.
Pros: Tremendous service, Tasty dishes
Cons: Small portions and high price

Great dal - Edit
Food was great, just not very hot, hence the four stars. I felt I had to eat it quickly or it would be cold entirely. The dal was very good though - I’d recommend it. Lovely interior too.

Oh Mama - Edit
This is a lovely all vegan cafe in the centre of downtown Reykjavik. Considering the very expensive venues in this part of town I thought the food was reasonably priced. I had the Dahl ala Mama which was a beautifully spiced and hearty red lentil stew, as well as their signature blueberry and vanilla cheesecake (sheesecake). Both were delicious. A range of coffees are available along with a tea menu. The smoothie bowls sound amazing (I haven’t ruled out going back if I have time) and there are also salads, sandwiches and juices on the menu. This place has a very relaxed and casual vibe, I would definitely recommend you drop in. Oh and they also take bookings - I only know this as I overheard a member of staff taking a call about reserving a table.

Excellent - Edit
A nice, relaxed cafe overlooking Rainbow Street in the centre of Reykjavik. It has a decent selection of stews, smoothies/bowls, salads, juices and a couple of different cakes.

Great place - Edit
It was a really chilled place with “hippy” vibes which appealed to me but might be too much for some. Food tastes good and prices are okay considering you are in iceland.

A nice place to enjoy food in a lovely city. Upstairs was nice, although not the easiest to eat food to ge honest; the low sofas were a challenge!

Lovely food - Edit
The food here was delicious. I had a strawberry smoothie bowl and my boyfriend had the dahl and although the smoothie bowl was nice, it's safe to say I had huge food envy! Would definitely recommend the dahl as it was delicious. As others have mentioned, the portions are quite large! The cafe was chilled and staff were friendly.

Delicious and well presented food - Edit
This place is absolutely worth checking out while you're in Reykjavik. It's in an easy to find spot, but make sure you go all the way upstairs. It is a bit pricey, but so is everything in Iceland. Portions are large, and everything is fresh and delicious, with interesting flavour combinations.
