We went today whilst visiting Bournemouth. Nice cafe with a pretty eclectic decor. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Had we found it sooner we would definitely have gone back.

Bournemouths friendly vegan cafe - Edit
We go here quite a lot for meals or just coffee and cake. The food is always excellent, my favourite so far is the aubergine and peanut stew. Good choice of hot food, cakes and coffees. Laid back and very friendly.

This cafe is very welcoming and has a great range of both savoury and sweet dishes to choose from as well as all kinds of teas/coffees/juices and smoothies. A real asset for any veggies/vegans in the area.

Great vegan food and people. I spent a lot of time in Bournemouth the last 12 months and at every visit, I went to the Mad Cucumber. It is a great vegan cafe / restaurant / lounge with great tasting vegan food on the menu. Try their green smoothie...

Home - style cooking in a relaxed setting - Edit
This is a laid - back café - restaurant, which, with free wi-fi and the option of a tab, encourages you to linger.
Read moreYou make your choice from the plentiful selection of food and drink chalked on the blackboard. Then take a seat and your order is brought to you when it's ready. Everything is vegan so you are spoilt for choice; there looked to be plenty of options for those needing gluten-free too.
I chose the three bean chilli with rice. This came in a bowl, with sliced avocado and ?soya cream on the top. It was simple but delicious with a good balance of seasoning. However, I am vegetarian rather than vegan and missed having cheese sprinkled in the top. The quantities were perfect so no waste. The wholegrain rice (a plus - point for me) was perfectly cooked. I opted for tap water and there are jugs and glasses readily available.
To finish, I ordered a peppermint tea (tisane). This was made with loose leaf tea suspended in the water in a strainer, with a ceramic lid on top to be left while it brewed. This was a nice touch although I didn't feel it tasted any better than a standard mint tea made with a tea bag.
I felt quite comfortable eating here alone. The staff were laid back and welcoming and there seemed to be people there just hanging out, reading a book or whatever as well as those having a meal with friends. I thought it was good value too.
Pros: Plenty choice; laid - back atmosphere; tasty food

the penultimate vegan cafe - Edit
I have toured a couple vegan cafes and always found something lacking. but I can gladly say I have not at the mad cucumber. they offer a variety of styles of food ranging from incredibly generous and satisfying salad sides and well curated vegetable dishes to classic substitute favourites like their black bean enchiladas which even my meaty friends have come and enjoyed. and their variety and strengths don't stop with the mains as their cake counter is filled with a wide variety of raw cheesecakes, tray bakes, cookies, and a cake for every taste. with constant one offs and daily specials in both mains and puddings there always seems to be something new to try.
Read morethe drinks reflect their values with food too - anything from some delicious local sourced kombucha to a hot chocolate with all the toppings!
personal favourites: their cucumber coolers are a god send in the summer. the peanut butter bars always satisfy my craving for sweet and chocolatey. and the bean patties with the huge salad fit the healthy, filling, and flavoursome tick boxes I'm usually looking for in a lunch.
once upon a time they not only offered all of these amazing foods and drinks but had breakfasts! including crepes and scrambled tofu which were again both amazing in completely separate ways.
my hope is that one day they are able to bring this back as they stopped doing breakfasts when their opening times changed (opening before 12 every day is a bit of a big ask as it is currently run by some wonderful volunteers who very much deserve some time off!)
all in all I have found multiple favourites for summer and winter meals/drinks/cakes in this cafe - it is yet to disappoint! and to top it off the cafe itself is relaxed and friendly, with its own unique style and vibe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pros: the foods/cakes/drinks are varied and delicious, the cafe itself is wonderfully decorated and incre, you can even get cake or drinks to go!

Amazing vegan cafe! - Edit
The Mad Cucumber is such an amazing vegan cafe, from its cool decor, to its delicious food! There was a great range of drinks to choose from (teas, smoothies, milkshakes...), as well as hot food and cakes! I had the burrito which came with a side of rice and salad, and it was so yummy and filling. My boyfriend had the chickpea curry, which was also great. We both had a melon, pear and lemon smoothie, and then we also had some carrot cake, and lemon & poppyseed cake to finish! The staff were also friendly and helpful, and the cafe itself is very close to bournemouth's main shopping area, giving it a good location. Would definitely recommend giving this place a visit, I know I'll be going back when I can!

Our favourite restaurant - Edit
We have been eating at the Mad Cucamber regularly for the past year. We have never been let down: the price is good; the food is always excellent and the service is very friendly. We love the place as it always has a wide selection of cakes including sugar and gluten free, so we often pop in for a take away service if we can't stop or the cafe is full. I do advice to book as the place is quite small and can get really busy.

Decidedly average fare - Edit
My friend and i found our food to be very bland. The fritter meal was tasteless and uncreative. The chocolate cake was stale and dry. Staff were very friendly and it seemed to be a popular haunt for locals.

It’s yummy veggie - Edit
My friend and I went to Mad Cucumber on this weekend. The food was exquisite! So flavorful – I have heard great things about it and seen some decent photographs on Instagram and Facebook. Regardless of the possibility that you're not vegetarian or vegan it’s a pleasant change and the food is so wonderful you won't be missing your meat! You will definitely enjoy your visit. It was quality healthy food, good atmosphere, pleasant staff will return and the costs are incredible as well. Without a doubt visit!

Delicious vegan cake! - Edit
I highly recommend the Mad Cucumber. I only wish it had been around when I started uni and that I had discovered it sooner! They made me an absolutely delicious chocolate layered vegan cake for my birthday (very last minute of me, I asked the day before and they were still able to make it for me). SO good... all my non-vegan friends and family that tried it loved it, too.

wished I lived in Bournemouth - Edit
Lucky residents of Bournemouth having the Mad Cucumber. Went there in mid December 2014 with my parents (who live there and go often). It was packed out. I had a fudge brownie which was lovely and rich and a big pot of tea. Lovely atmosphere too and very friendly staff. Tried to go there a couple days later but they have a massive closure period for xmas and new year unfortunately.
