Best vegan donuts we’ve had so far in New England!
We tried the signature glazed brioche, fried dough, Boston cream and blueberry jelly donut. All of them hit the spot. Staff was friendly and helpful. Service was quick. Location was easy to get to.

It was awesome to find a fully vegan donut and coffee shop in maine. I tried the Boston cream (loved it), a chocolate cake donut, and a raspberry filled. All were amazing ! Can’t wait for my next trip to maine to try even more flavors !

Pros: Unique flavors

Amazing donuts, amazing people

I was so happy to be able to make it here on a roadtrip! We arrived just 15 minutes before closing and ordered 4 donuts... but because they were about to close (and would need to compost unsold donuts) they actually gave us a box of 10 donuts. One staff member heard me talking about how I had wanted to try the Boston cream, but they were all out. They actually went to the back and made on the spot an additional 2 donuts, fashioning a Boston cream out of the ring form. We were sooo appreciative and excited - what a truly kind and amazing staff!

And the donuts themselves were so delicious. Because we had such an excess of donuts, we were eating them for days, and I was surprised as how fresh and moist they stayed even two days later. The Boston cream was my favorite, but I also loved the glazed brioche and the chocolate glazed. We also got the monkey muffins, banana fritter, and a special blueberry situation. With everything vegan, you can't go wrong.

Excellent!

Everything here is vegan. I wanted to order one of everything, but settled for a strawberry shortcake donut and a cardamom rose donut. Neither disappointed.

Pros: Everything is vegan!

Cons: Donuts are a little pricey

Best donuts in New England

Even my non-vegan friends are obsessed with this place. Absolutely smokes the competition for vegan donuts in the Boston area, although it’s obviously a hike from Boston. Crazy flavors always perfectly executed, extremely nice staff. Seems kind of pricey but you get what you pay for — these are some heavy donuts. I always end up buying too many…

online ordering helps if you’re worried about them running out of something!

Pros: Lots of variety, Very nice staff

Cons: Kind of expensive but that is to be expected!

Worth it

My wife and I are both veg/vegan. Supporting local businesses/places we can eat is important to us. Imagine my joy reading in 2019 about a vegan doughnut shop opening. Imagine how many counseling sessions I would need finding out it was 3hrs away. Instead of counseling I spent the money on good transportation. Lovebirds doughnuts are THE cure for depression, anxiety, whatever you have going on in your life. If you have ever doubted the existence of God, this place will remind you God does exist, and apparently He works in Lovebirds kitchen. They're that good.
Their prices may seem a bit high until you see the size of the doughnut. It's probably the best deal in the state of Maine for any doughnut.
My only complaint is why did they have to choose Kittery and not the empty storefront next to my house? I would be their best customer.

Pros: Value, Local business, Quality

Cons: Distance

Ascension into Higher Dimensions

It’s funny, I used to be just like you. I enjoyed my life of lines, circles, and polygons. But one fateful day, I decided to dine at this enticing donut establishment… then it happened… Upon the first bite - NAY! the first scent and gaze!!! - my being broke free from the confines of your limited continuum, granting the freedom to perceive the vastness of life and its grandeur. I walk among planes, spheres, and prisms! Am I a god? After eating a cinnamon sugar donut, I counted to infinity. I AM INFINITY. Do not settle for life as a mere projection - the gates of Lovebirds await you - GREATNESS awaits you! BE INFINITY!!!!

Pros: Grants perceived immortality , Experience the tastes of the gods, The opportunity to learn what love is

Cons: After ascension, all other earthly food pales , HappyCow won’t allow me to give infinity stars

Perfection

We drove almost two hours to Lovebirds and it was well worth the trip. The donuts were awesome and we just love that the place is entirely vegan. I had the chocolate glazed and it was perfect — chocolatey, but not overpowering and sweet, but not too sweet. Perfection.

We met other vegans in line and saw lots of people smarter than us who ordered online and had their donut boxes delivered right to their cars. This is definitely the way to go since most flavors were sold out before we arrived.

We parked at the back of the lot and ate our donuts facing the woods where we saw several beautiful bluebirds flitting about. More perfection!

MMMMM, DO-nuts!!

My husband is a traditionalist. He got regular, chocolate glazed, and cinnamon sugar donuts, like he remembered from childhood. I was more adventurous, and even though I haven’t ever really liked Boston cream pie, it sounded like it’d be a great donut. It was fantastic! I also went a bit traditional with a regular glazed brioche, and today I will venture the mango raspberry, which has been in the freezer. I was told they freeze well, but I bet they generally don’t hang around long enough for the need to freeze them!

Pros: All vegan donuts, from traditional to original

Gorgeous delicious vegan donuts

Also gluten free donut options. I tried the raspberry cheesecake, Boston creme, pina Colada, strawberry lemonade glazed, and they were absolutely delicious. I gave some away because I couldn't finish them and my friend loved them also. The lavender yuzu latte was so good.

Worth the drive.

I've been eating their donuts since their opening day and they've done nothing but improve to perfection (they were good from day one but every time I go back they seem to get better). The atmosphere is really nice too, lots of windows and good seating. Very clean. The coffee is good too and staff has always been really friendly. Its close to a two hour drive for me but sometimes I need their donuts that bad.

Pros: Lots of flavors to choose from!, Good coffee to accompany donut. , Taste

Cons: Can be on the greasy side so I can only handle one

So happy this place exists

I’d been dying to have a donut since going vegan but none of the local places have animal-free options. Lovebirds is about 30 minutes from our house but worth the drive every time. My wife and I have probably been ten times, going once a month to try their flavors which change every month. They have a few great standbys and then some fun seasonal options. Both their cake and brioche donuts will knock your socks off and make you wonder how it’s vegan. Some of the flavors are just okay, but we always get 4 or more to try out a bunch over the course of the day. If you get there before 8am on the weekend, there isn’t much of a line, but it starts picking up after that. The trade off is that they sell apple fritters starting at 9am (and sometimes a little early) and if you get them fresh and warm it might make you cry. May’s salted brown sugar apple fritter was one of the best donuts we’ve ever had. Great selection of coffee beverages as well and the employees are generally really friendly despite having to get up so early.

Pros: Every single thing is vegan and peanut free, Reasonable prices , Fast and happy service

Cons: Can get busy after 8am on weekends, Flavors might run out on a busy day

Hi Alina, so glad you enjoyed the donuts. We can't quite tell whether you are suggesting our team is not wearing masks, or instead that you wish they were not wearing masks. Our company follows all CDC-mandated COVID safety protocols, as is the law. This includes that all team members are required to wear masks while at work. Wonderful place for vegan donuts!

I live in Salem, MA and popped over to lovebirds on a weekend where we were quarantined with nothing else to do, and we’ve gone a couple times since! They take orders online and once we parked, they were outside with the donuts! I would recommend placing the order the day before if possible. The lemon lavender donut was phenomenal!

Pros: All vegan! , Huge variety of donuts

Great donuts, but employees not wearing masks

UPDATE:9/24/20 Still love these donuts and the existence of a vegan bakery but the kitchen is windowed and none of the employees were wearing masks while prepping the donuts.
Good procedure keeping masks on while interacting with customers and outdoor ordering.

Amazing donut shop! Be sure to try the Boston cream! I can’t bring myself to leave without a full dozen, these are the most high quality donuts I have ever had. The coffee is also fair trade and the shop is adorable. There is also a window to view the kitchen!

Pros: Holy cow the donuts are so good , Amazing coffee, Adorable shop

Cons: Poor mask protocol

We would have loved the opportunity to hear from you directly with the specifics of your visit so we could either investigate further, provide important context, or otherwise allay your concerns.
