Nice find - Edit
Considering the specialties of the region, it was a relief to find a restaurant that offered vegan options! Food was very tasty. Menu was clearly labelled. Only reason it is not 5 stars is because the service was quite slow (I think they may have been understaffed that day?). Upon arrival, we were left wandering around. When we were seated, it also took a while to be given a menu or have our order taken.

Very tasty. Lovely host - Edit
Not exactly Middle Eastern, but that's probably the best description of the food. The host seemed to be doing everything himself, so service was a bit slow but the food was great. The host was also lovely and friendly and helpful re vegan questions. He also likes to source his food locally. Very pleasant sitting in the courtyard.

Saved our trip to Sarlat - Edit
Let's be honest. Sarlat is beautiful but it's far from being a veggie vegan mecca. After almost passing out under the strain of seeing shop after shop after restaurant promoting foie gras, this cute little place saved us entirely. One of Best bruschetta we tasted and good vegan ootions

Cons: Little bit of a wait but not much, There is fish on the menu

Very nice experience - Edit
We went to Le Samovar (1 vegan and 2 flexitarians) and everything was very tasteful! Vegan options are labelled and the staff is friendly. A great place in not so vegan-friendly Sarlat 😅

Really sympathetic owner - Edit
Really nice location in the heart of a beautiful medieval town. The owner was really nice to talk to, and shared how disgusted he was at how vegans were treated in France, and it was refreshing to even be able to eat out! The food was grown locally and tasted fantastic. My only criticism would be quantity, especially compared to what was being offered to vegetarian and meat eaters. However, I'd still definitely recommend a visit, especially as it is offering a taste outside of the normal local cuisine. This part of France grows some of the most beautiful vegetables, and it was really nice to see them celebrated!

Oh la vache ! - Edit
Today we visited Le Samovar in Sarlat and were just blown away by the taste of the dish we were served. We went for the Samovar plate for two and it was totally worth it. Hummus, tabouleh, awesome moussaka and a salad on the side together with a tasty fresh bread.. just a dream! The owner is very friendly and we are planning to go back to try also some vegetarian dishes (there is not much choice for vegan options, aside from the samovar plate it was bruschetta, pasta and a salad) as the ingredients are high quality, all is organic, seasonal and local. As a dessert we had a walnut cake, oh my!

Best vegan food I ever had - Edit
When seeing the menu at first, we felt like having a limited option for vegan food, but once our plates arrived, we discovered a beautiful plate, full of coulours. And, we were not disappointed, it was full of wonderful flavors that all mixed up so well in the mouth. The staff was amazing as well, we had a chat with the chef that was very interesting and interested with our feedback. We were served very fast(daster than fast foods), there was almost no waiting time. I highly recommend this plce for whoever will be cisiting this region!

Vegan/Veg friendly and organic too! - Edit
My husband and I are long term vegans. We really LOVED this tiny restaurant and the owner, Gazi, was warm and friendly and very willing to serve us an all vegan, organic, and freshly made meal. He speaks good English, and takes his cooking very seriously, as any good French chef should. 🥰
Read moreThe little town of Sarlat-la-Canéda is in the heart of foie gras country and it seems like every restaurant focuses on that and cheese. So a place that doesn’t is super welcome!
Gazi made me an amazing moussaka with salad. My husband got the veggie burger. We had an appetizer of hummus, tabbouleh, green salad and a delicious eggplant spread and fresh organic bread from the local market.
We loved our food so much, we came back three more times!
If you eat here, please tell Gazi we send him our best wishes! He made our visit to Sarlat a great memory and we hope he has much success and sees for himself how much veganism is growing and the demand for it too.
I hope you try this place out and enjoy it as much as we did.
By the way, the location may be a tad hard to find as it’s not along the main road. It’s located up the little street to the left of the Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat in the medieval center.
Pros: Excellent food, The owner/chef connects with you personally, Organic, seasonal super fresh produce
Cons: music is a little too loud for my taste inside
