Serves meat, vegan options available. A popular restaurant on the main street that prides itself as a place serving vegetarian food and more. Most of the menu is vegetarian, and vegans will find quite a few dishes like a seitan sandwich, the super berenjena (berenjena is Spanish for eggplant), the boliche and the jinete. Most tables are outside on a terrace. Reported closed, Sept '22.

Excellent veg and vegan options - Edit
This restaurant is off the main road but worth a little diversion. Great surprise to see a good selection of veg and vegan options - I'm veg and my daughter is vegan, and we were expecting to struggle in Cuba. The piled aubergine (pictured - can't remember the correct name) was delicious. My daughter's stuffed aubergine could have been cooked a little more but was also very tasty. Very friendly, polite and helpful staff too. Some have commented it's a little expensive for the area but I think that the quality and freshness justifies the price, which I didn't find particularly high. Highly recommend this restaurant for veg and vegans - delicious!

One of Cubas best places for veggies - Edit
This is definitely among the five best places I got to eat at during the six months I lived in Cuba. The terrace is really cozy, it is less busy than the main street and the menu has a lot of vegetarian options - there might even be some vegan ones, I don't remember. I liked there mojito a lot, but be careful, it contains honey.
Read moreThe prices aren't cheap, but given that this is Viñales and the place caters specifically to a smaller crowd they are okay.
Pros: A lot of vegetarian choices by Cuban standards, Cozy atmosphere, Friendly staff
Cons: Relatively pricy

Nice place - Edit
I was positively surprised by this place considering Cuba is not exactly the friendliest place for a vegan or a vegetarian. They have creative dishes and also loved their juices. It's a little more expensive than I would like but worth a visit.

Went twice - Edit
During my six days in Vinales, I returned to eat here again a second time because they have the most varied and interesting menu for veg*s in town. The drink menu is also exciting, with smoothies and drinks with fresh herbs. As the photos show, they present the food well also.

Decent meal in a country where they don't serve too much veggie food - Edit
My girlfriend and I visited La Berenjena hoping to get a veggie dish that is other then rice and beans or a salad. The menu is quite wide, unfortunately very poorly translated into English, so we're not even quite sure what we had. Both dishes were decent, juices we ordered were great, prices comparable with other Vinales restaurants, venue itself is cosy, waiters helpful (not speaking English well, though). Can recommend, but don't expect a stunner.

Cons: Poorly translated menu (into English), 2 dishes we ordered were just decent

Seitan!!! - Edit
This restaurant was only a 5 minute walk from our case. After struggling through Cuba, the seating sandwich was a delicious, filling meal. We also had the black bean soup, boliche, fried rice, pasta and the super berenjena. Everything was flavorful and fresh and the prices were very affordable. The service was always wonderful and they even had a highchair for our baby.

Fantastic gem in Vinales - Edit
The food here is excellent and out of sync with the rest of Cuba - there are so many vegan options (and of course veggie) and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Great vegan food - Edit
I went to this restaurant after reading about it on a vegan blog. It didn't disappoint. The waiter knew the word "vegan" and could tell me what was vegan or not.
Read moreWe ate there two time, I took the Super Berenjena and the gried rice with veggie. Both very good, but they did have a soya sauce taste.
I would recommend to every vegan visiting Cuba.

Great Vegetarian & Vegan options - Edit
A delightful discovery in Vinales - ate here twice during our 4-day stay. Mostly vegetarian and vegan with some omnivore options. Wonderful smoothies, great eggplant dish. Enjoyed all our entries. Lovely service including chatting with the owner and the matriarch who created the menu.

Seitan! And best place to eat in Vinales! - Edit
I was really glad to find a restaurant with more than one or two vegetarian options in Cuba, Although the sign says that La Berenjena offers "comidas vegetarianas y mas", it really is mostly vegetarian.
Read moreI ate there a couple of time and it was usually pretty good. I tried most vegan main dishes, and the ones I recommend are the Super Berenjena (with seitan!) and the Boliche (with pureed root veggies).
I also fell in love with the Candela rum-based drink. If you like gingery juices and alcohol, you are going to enjoy this. I ordered it every single time.
I couldn't believe there was actually seitan there. So, I ordered twice the seitan sandwich to go, which is a veganized version of the traditional Cuba sandwich. Unfortunately, there is nothing but seitan in the sandwich. It was still nice to eat for lunch during tours and on the beach, but it'd be better with tomatoes or just some sort of spread to make it moist.
The place is packed, so get there early or be prepared to wait.
Pros: Friendly staff, Variety, Cool drinks
Cons: Crowded
