Delicious ramen! - Edit
I was in Kyoto for 3 nights and ended up here every evening! I would plan somewhere else then it would be shut, or too busy, then I’d know that engine had my back. I tried both vegan options and they are both delicious. It’s a very touristy vibe but an easy place to go. SOLID!

Would be worth five stars! - Edit
The menu is short in general and there is only one vegan ramen, but it is delicious! It's so good that I went there twice, almost three times, during my stay in Kyoto. Also, it's one of the few restaurants that is open until 11pm. Further, if the place is busy, you'll get a waiting ticket but don't have to wait in line at the restaurant. E.g. they'll tell you to be back in 20 minutes and you can walk around the area in the meantime. And, last but not least, the staff super nice and helpful!

Get the spicy ramen. DO IT!!! - Edit
We popped into Kyoto engine ramen on a whim after being rejected from another vegan restaurant, it took them about 45 minutes to seat 6 of us which really is pretty good for such a large group on kyoto! They had 2 vegan options: one with a delicious creamy mild broth, the other with a broth which at first you think is actually pretty tame, but your mouth is on fire by the end of it and your [censored] is cursing you for the endeavours it will have to face in the coming hours. This is the one to get. While both of them are amazing, they used a chilli gin with Thai chilli to spice the ramen and it is probably the most unique (and painful) ramen I’ve ever tasted. Makes me real sad to be leaving Kyoto because I’d easily polish off that bowl another 100 times, much to my [censored]’s dismay.

Bit disappointed - Edit
Visited back in 2019 when I thought it was the most delicious ramen I’d ever tasted, was excited to return on this visit, however the whole experience was a bit of a miss. We arrived and was given a number and asked to queue outside, we waited but saw groups of the same number being seated before us and it happened they forgot we existed.
Read more2 types of vegan ramen on offer, perhaps should have got the zesty ramen as the other was bland, ingredients were sparse and nothing offered any density. Noodles tasted like they were out a badly made instant ramen.
Sake offered was ‘smooth’, ‘dry’ or ‘sweet’, but personally prefer to see brands and try them out. Felt a bit condescending.
Left having not finished either my ramen or sake, with a bad taste in my mouth.

Best vegan ramen - Edit
Tasty vegan ramen! We had a short wait time of 10 minutes (they give you a ticket) and ordered the zesty vegan ramen and smooth sake. So delicious and filling. Quite a few foreign staff! Would have been nice to have option for vegan side / entry but they only have 4 ramen items on the whole menu (2 of those are vegan)

Delicious broth - Edit
Seems to have only foreign customers and foreign staff. You have to queue up but you'll get a number and can wait elsewhere if you want.
Read moreI had the zesty ramen vegan for 1400 yen. The broth is quite thick and super delicious. It's really tasty and service was quick.
The only downside: there aren't many veggies in the ramen - it's basically just broth, noodles and spring onion.
Pros: Delicious broth
Cons: Have to queue up, Hardly any veggies in the ramen

what a gem‼️❤️‼️ - Edit
i tried to arrive exactly at 1630 but it was raining and tricky to find. now i know it’s next to sou sou this exceptional japanese shoe shop. they make the ramen FRESH it takes time but the flavour and atmosphere are amazing and they accept credit cards and price is very reasonable compared to other veg places for ramen and i had rice noodles instead of udon wheat so was ideal. it’s worth waiting as the quality is so good 👍

Great restaurant - Edit
We have been four nights in Kyoto and went there twice. Both vegan ramens (Beaning and Zesty) were great and very delicious. We were there early in the evening (around 6:30) and had to wait 20-30 minutes.

Worth the wait - Edit
My favourite ramen place in all of Japan. We tried both vegan ramen menu items, the "Beaning" and the "Zesty". While both were good, we much preferred the Zesty due to its extra kick and flavour. It's described as spicy, but we found it totally manageable for our North American palates. The only downside was the long line, which stretched for a block, but it was well worth the wait.

Best vegan ramen I’ve ever had!! We got lucky and probably waited 5 minutes and the staff was sooo nice! It’s great that they also have non-vegan so my boyfriend could enjoy it too. We ended up liking so much that we got their t-shirts as a souvenir!

It was very busy, so we had to wait about thirty minutes for a table (they gave us a ticket so we didn't have to stand in a queue and could wander until then), but well worth the wait. The zesty ramen is fantastic!

Worth the wait! - Edit
We went at prime dinner time on a Thursday and were quoted an hour’s wait time. Every ten minutes the staff would come out and call ticket numbers but most people were no shows so it was only about 30 minutes. Staff were incredibly friendly and charismatic. Ordered the zesty (spicy) vegan ramen and it was some of the best tasting broth I’ve ever had. Definitely spicy for westerners but overall it was very tolerable.

Amazing vegan ramen with nice people - Edit
Service: register on the waiting list and wait to be seated. When we came the clerk said it was around an hour of waiting, but since people who have registered didn't show up, they let us in immediately in their place! The staff is fluent in English and so is the menu. I asked if the ramen was spicy, so they made it spicy on my request
Read moreAtmosphere: when you leave the busy street and go into the little alleyway you run into the restaurant. It has a modern Japanese interior, two floors hipster vibe and very friendly staff. A few tables in the corners and a bar overlooking the open kitchen.
Food: ramen was really good! The broth was flavourful and the noodles had great texture. Pretty sad that vegan ramen lacks toppings (other ramen has some meat and boiled eggs). Extremely pleasurable experience although it is not as good as T's Tantan ramen
Pros: I asked for spicy and i got spicy

The tastiest vegan dish I've ever had - Edit
This place does have vegan options as I just went there. Two vegan options and I went back the second day to try the other cause this was just incredibly off the charts. I found it extremely difficult to find vegan & GF food in Kyoto but this restaurant provides. It's not a ticket system as described in the description, a waiter takes your order & you're provided with a free tea. This place is an absolute must. It's very popular though so ensure to go early or else you could be waiting a long time. You need to try this place. 🤤

Amazing authentic vegan ramen - Edit
We did have to queue for around an hour to get in, but it was so worth the wait. The service was friendly, fast, and efficient. Just 2 vegan options on the menu, and I chose the zesty vegan. It was busting with flavour and spicy, and I enjoyed every spoon/chopstick full. The restaurant was small with only around 3 small tables and the counter area around the kitchen, so it was quite cramped. Even though we queued to nearly the advertised closing time, with others behind us in yhe queue, no one was turned away, and everyone was welcomed and fed. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in Kyoto.

Amazing !!!!! - Edit
I absolutely loved these ramen, they were soooo tasty and good !! To the people complaining about the place only having non-Japanese customers, I think this is mostly because Japanese are rarely vegan and therefore don’t seek such restaurants…
