Desolate - Edit
I feel badly for them, but when you dine-in at a restaurant and you’re the only customers for 40 minutes, I don’t believe you should expect fresh food, generally.
Read moreWe were thinking “left over from covid” dining: empty tables, cleared of everything from condiments to table settings. Windowless cramped feeling room. Creepy.
Pad kee mao was soaking in sweet soy sauce, and salty af. Pretty small portion for the price paid. I was sorry we tried this place with so many other interesting choices in New Haven. My mistake.
Pros: Nothing, really.
Cons: Small portion , Is this place open?, Windowless and cramped feeling.

Edit: Beware, no more vegan options! - Edit
Edit: I was a big fan of Koon Thai but when I went in today I was told that they got a new chef a couple of weeks ago who only uses fish sauce. Despite the menu having an abundance of vegan and vegetarian labels, the panag curry is the only entree that can actually be made vegan now. It seems like they have been serving fish sauce to people thinking they’re getting a veg meal and have yet to make any updates to their menu. I’m super disappointed and won’t be going back.
Read moreThis place has a lot of vegan/can be made vegan (by omitting egg) options clearly labeled on the menu. Got the pineapple fried rice and pad see ew and both were super flavorful with generous portions at an affordable price. The place seems to primarily do take out and although we were almost dissuaded by the lack of diners, I’m glad we stayed.

Delicious vegan options - Edit
I was leaving one of my favorite New Haven vegan friendly restaurants (Lalibela) only to find yet another new favorite right across the street! Thanks to a Happy Cow sticker in the window, I stopped to check out the menu at Koon and was so happy to see real vegan options, like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and Taro steamed buns! I made a mental note to try it the following week and I'm so glad I did. I ordered delivery and all the vegan dishes were scrumptious! So happy that there is a Thai restaurant in New Haven with actual vegan options. Four stars only because they serve meat.
