Boston-based dairy ice cream shop and coffee roaster. In 2012, it launched vegan flavors made with coconut milk and with hemp milk. Open Mon-Thu 10:00am-10:00pm, Fri-Sat 10:00am-11:00pm, Sun 10:00am-10:00pm.
Had several of their vegan frappes and they were delicious and so filling that I couldn't eat for hours afterwards! Reasonable price for the amount and quality. Would go again for.sure!
While I do appreciate that JP Licks offers vegan options, I've tried most of them, and don't find their vegan ice cream to be very good at all. They're generally kind of watery and too sweet.
I could see ordering their ice cream from time to time, if it were the only vegan option in the area, but there are lots of really great vegan ice creams available in Boston, so I wouldn't recommend JP Licks. And I'd worry that it might turn people off to vegan ice cream if this was their first exposure to it.
3 Vegan choices: usually 1-2 soy, 1 hemp, sometimes 1 sorbet. I've tried a few of the soy ice creams and they're always thick and not very refreshing. I love coconut and almond milk ice cream, which they never carry. Note that they do have a kiddie size, which is still pretty big, so start there if you aren't sure about the flavor. So far, I've been disappointed, but I gave them 3 stars because I still appreciate that they're an ice cream shop that carries vegan options.
