Cheap and lots of options!

We are here 4 or so time while in chiang mai. There are loads of options from soups, rice dishes, noodles and salads. The Khao Soi is nice but have had better. The wonton soup was delicious as well as the papaya salad. Also open till nine so is latest open cheap vegan place around

Pros: Loads of options , Cheap, Open till nine

Tasty and cheap food

For the price the food is great, we shared 3-4 dishes and left feeling very full as the portions are generous. A couple of the dishes arrived a bit tepid, would have been better hot, but otherwise everything was good. There is free self-serve filter water. Great to have a vegan place with so many options.

Cheap and good variety, but some has also egg

Every plate costs currently around 40b and the menu is labelled also in English about which ones carry also eggs (like yellow noodles). It has also fake meat skewers already prepared you ca choose from at the counter. Water is free.

Great cheap restaurant

Came here on new years day as all our local haunts were closed.
We really liked this restaurant. Lots of options to choose from and all for 40 or 50 baht. All good size portions too.
Loads of mock meat options.
Really quick service when we were here.
Food is made to Thai taste.

Pros: Really cheap., Loads of options

Cons: None really.

This place is fantastic

I'm a bit sad that I've been in Chiang Mai for about a month and a half and I've just found this place. All the top rated veggie places are western knock off restaurants. This is real Thai food at Thai price and unlike the top rated places you'll actually see Thais eating here. Which is a very good sign for a Thai restaurant. All in all, it's great food, in a local shop for a few dollars. Go here.

Pros: Thai food, Cheap, Local

Cons: A little out of town

Jay food

Most dishes here are vegan, except the yellow egg-based noodles, which are marked. There are dishes that can be ordered spicy or not spicy. There are lots of different packaged interesting foods in a shelf, unfortunately with no english labels.
The food gets freshly prepared to your order.
I had the papaya salad, which to my surprise was not sweet, but really tasty.

Pros: Cheap, traditional Thai food

Cons: no english labels on packed food

papaya salad FTW

I'm always buying my papaya salad rice here. It's 100% perfect and when I say (ped nid noi = spicy a little bit) I'm getting the perfect spice.
Besides that I just ate one more curry dish. It was good/very good and I'll continue to test the menue when I feel like it. But papaya salad with rice all day long 😁😁👍

Pros: ultra friendly + helpful stuff, very tasty, inexpensive + awesome quality

Cons: none

A solid Jai canteen with plenty of vegan options

This is a luxury Jai canteen with plenty of vegan options, a menu and hot dishes. The staff is friendly and you are served quickly. The food is good, I had a spicy tom yum soup and fried tofu. The fried tofu is a bit strange but good. Portions are generous and prices very low. This is a strong reference in Chiang Mai for Jai veg' food.

Pros: huge vegan menu, good food, inexpensive, friendly staff

Cons: not 100% vegan

1000X'S YES!!

went here a bunch of times. Super cheap! Most dishes are
1.00-1.30 euro! They are not huge portions so i always got
two items. Lots of fake meats, veg, soups and salads. you
get a small soup with most orders and they have a big fish
tank full of lettuce ,fresh herbs, sprouts and spring onions
sitting on ice that you can load up on for free!

Only dish i didn't like was the wood ear mushroom salad.
between the wood ears and this unfried fake meat on it,
it was a big plate of rubber. I couldn't do that one..

Everything else was spot on!

There's not a lot to do in this area but there in another
veg restaurant attached to this one and 'Ice love you'
is also a five min walk from this location.

Very good place

I really like this place. It is a jay canteen style, it is all about thai food. The food come warm, it is not always like that in jay canteen. Mock meat is very good. Lot of choice. Prices are very cheap, you can order lots of thing and share. The fried tofu is so good !

Pros: Fried Tofu

Good Thai Veg Food - lots of Options

The good thing about this place is the unusually late opening hours until 9PM as most of these Thai style veggie places close in the afternoon. The menu is also unusually huge and there are even about four or five different types of somtam (spicy salad) to choose from as well as plenty of other dishes plus snacks and sweet things for take away. Free salad to eat with food. They have drinks too such as fruit iced tea. Food is made to order, no buffet.
Update 2018. Vegans need to be careful. Please avoid anything that might possibly have egg such as fake meats and yellow noodles. Anything else should be fine.
On a recent visit I also saw them selling pizza with either vegan cheese or normal cheese.

One of the best in Chiang Mai

We were very, very sorry to discover this place only at our last meal of our 2-week holiday. Totally blown away by the taste, price, and variety of popular Thai and Northern Thai dishes, vegan versions.

Also suitable for those who eschew eating the 5 pungent plants.

5mins' walk or less from Wat Suan Dok.

Pros: Wide variety of popular Thai and Northern Thai dis, taste, cleanliness and staff and location

Awesome, cheap food

Some of the tastiest and cheapest meals I got in Thailand. About 40 baht for most meals. There is free water and a salad bar. The food is really delicious with lots of different mock meat choices. Not the healthiest of meals but definitely good for the price. The people working don't understand much English but there are menus to show what you want. Went there everyday during my stay in Chiang Mai and would definitely go back

Pros: Cheap, Tasty, Free salad and drinking water

Cons: The owners don't speak much english, Can be hard to find

Nice place

Now it's working untill 9pm

I have a breakfast there almost every day.

Unlike most of thai style vegetarian cafes it doesn't have a buffet. Whey will cook what you want. Whey have menu in English.

Recomend you to try "Japanese curry rice"

lots of cheap vegan options

I called into Jay Myjam Jay at lunch time today and had tempura vegies with rice ... there is an extensive menu located on a number of walls however not everything listed in the menus is available all the time ... the various dishes range from ฿40 to ฿60 each ... the food is cheap and tasty and the staff are friendly and attentive

Pros: lots of cheap vegan options

Best of the cheap restaurants in Chiang Mai

Jay My Jam Jay is probably the best of the cheap vegetarian restaurants in Chiang Mai. I love especially their soups. There´s so many things in each soup: different vegetables, mock meats, mushrooms etc. and they are great combinations with tasty stock.

Most of the cheap jay-vegetarian places in Chiang Mai and Thailand have only their buffet and a couple of noodle soups that you may order, but Jay My Jam Jay has a huge menu of soups, salads and rice dishes with toppings.

There used to be a restaurant with the same name and similar menu on the same road (Suthep Road), but more west next to Chiang Mai University campus. This restaurant is located more east, nearer to Wat Suan Dok.

There are two other vegetarian restaurants right next to Jay My Jam Jay. This is the one most east. The two other restaurant have the more traditional buffet-style food. Jay My Jam Jay looks cleaner than those two tothers. And this is open until late, unlike most jay-restaurants that close at afternoon.

The "spicy salads" are very hot spicy, you may want to order them without chilli.

Pros: Huge menu with great soups, clean, open late

Usually open & big range

Good range of thai menu and buffet meals at local prices .
Quite spicy but they can make things without chilli on request.
Friendly staff with big smiles. Not orientated towards tourist market so their English is limited.

Pros: Buffet and menu, Fresh salads, Local prices

Cons: not every dish is always avsilable

Amazing thai vegetarian food!

Extensive menu hanged on the walls, separated into categories - over 24 options of spicy salad! Options with mushroom and veg meats.

I had a misunderstanding with the staff (due to their limited english and my limited thai), but it turned out pretty well, I just left with an extra yummy dish.

Pros: Inexpensive (35-50 THB), great food, extensive menu

Cons: hard to find if you only know the name

I'm fall in love!

This place so good for me! Good menu on the wall (pictures with price). All dishes 40-50 baht. Very tasty vegan mushroom satay and fried mushrooms for take away on the stall. Staff is friendly, but not good English, but it's no problem, because you can make order on paper - simple write number of dish.
Food so delicious and vegan. I like this place!!!

Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty food, big portions

Amazing Vegan restaurant

This is one of our regular dinner spots - it's usually too busy at lunch to get a table!

They have recently expanded their menu from around 30 dishes to over 80, I kid you not. The menu used to only be displayed by pictures on the wall with codes, but they now have actual menus on the tables (which is better than staring just over other customers heads to decide what to eat)! Dishes are Thai prices 35 - 50 baht and Thai portion size (ie small to westerners) but that just means you can try more stuff!

Most dishes come in either mushroom or fake-meat-style tofu options. Both are delicious.

If you visit at night they also have a sticks stall out the front, serving various sticks grilled with dipping sauce. The brown ones which look vaguely like meatballs are amazing.

Pros: Massive vegan only menu, tasty stick snacks

Cons: super popular so table waits possible, no bottles water, bring your own!
