Blessed food in Rishikesh - Edit
The canteen of the renowned ashram, serving 'prasad' (blessed food). The cuisine is fabulous and the options plentiful, though it tends to be pricey for Indian standards. The one exception is the 'sattvik thali', which they intentionally keep affordable since they promote the sattvik (lacto-vegetarian, no-onion, no-garlic) diet.
Read moreThe female guru of the ashram promotes veganism in India and claims to be vegan except for a few places like this, where the milk, she says, comes from 'happy' (indeed, worshipped) cows. Other 'vegans' who might not be so convinced should watch out for the thalis, as the platters are already in line with the 'salad' and dairy raita, just waiting for the warm items to be served—usually at a frantic pace at lunchtime.
