Quaint B&B with Quality Food - Edit
This was the second time I had stayed at the Hollybush. The evening menu has several vegan options. These are freshly cooked , quality meals made by their chef Tim whose attention to detail and flair make eating there a delight. The dining area is a bit on the cold side and there is a wait for food as it is cooked to order. Breakfast isn't bad. We went with sausages and beans with toast in the mornings. Cereals unfortunately all had milk or vit D as ingredients except the Weetabix. Oat milk was available.

Dark Skies Pub with a Bright Menu - Edit
Quaint village pub selling good home-cooked food in generous portions. The pub itself has a very small bar with two large tables and a roaring fire in winter. Most folk are locals and there was standing room only for a while. It’s serves a good selection or drinks with guest ales and cider. Beer garden out the back with nice views of the countryside. It has a couple of modern dining rooms for dinner (and breakfast) with nicely spaced tables. While the bar is toasty, both dining rooms were chilly in the winter evening and morning so wear a jumper! After being moved from the cosy bar to our table as the food was ready, we still had a 30 min wait in the chilly room for our food.
Read moreThe menu had a good selection with a few vegan dishes on the set menu and on the special menu. We had 2 starters and 2 mains …
Starter - Lima Beancakes with a Creole Sauce £5.50. This was a lovely specials starter. The 2 large fried beancake fritters were light and packed full of flavour, served on a bed of creole sauce which complemented by balancing it. Couldn’t fault it at all.
Starter - Potato Skins with Dips £5.50. Well seasoned slices of potato with 4 dips. The mango salsa was on point, the curry had a great balance, a creole sauce and ketchup. Nice starter.
Vegan Spaghetti £12. It was a very generous portion made with a nutty pesto. It was cooked well and tasted really good. A slice of garlic bread would have made it perfect!
Vegan Vegetable Masala Curry £13. A big portion of perfectly cooked rice and curry with a mango salsa side. The chef clearly knows what they’re doing because the veggies had bite but had taken on board the delicious masala sauce. A great dish.
Breakfast - Full Vegan English Breakfast: I think “full” is a bit of a stretch. 2 vegan sausages, a ramakin of beans, chopped cooked mushrooms and a tomato. Toast on the side. No vegan alternate for the bacon, black pudding or eggs. The tomatoes were almost raw and mushrooms bland. Sorry.
Would I go back? Yeah, when it warms up a bit.
Would I recommend? Food and beer in summer
Pros: Well thought out vegan options, Delicious food, Cosy bar
Cons: Chilly in winter, Bit of a wait but worth it
