so convenient

they have most of everything you'd need on a day-to-day basis, and the extend of the frozen range is excellent, especially for the size of the store.

Well stocked branch

Very good fridge and freezer section packed with delights from Frys, V-Bites as well as other great cruelty free brands. Some H&B's don't have refrigerated stock so this one is a bonus. A fancy new feature is that they sell infused olive oils from vats. Maybe I will try this. Probably not. Quite often there are buy one item get one half price or buy one get one for a penny deal but I do feel they slightly artificially inflate the prices for the period of the promotion. The good thing is that the till works out the bill in the favour of the customer i.e. four items purchased at different prices will even out to give discount on the two most expensive ones. You will find this branch on Silver Street opposite Tesco just before the Market Place.

Pros: good stock, cool section, promotions

Cons: fish oil products

Like an old shoe

It's always good to have an H&B at hand on your travels when the stocks need replenishing. On our visit to Durham we purchased some maple flavour rashers, coconut flour and vitamin D baby drops. As with most H&B stores, they have a deli section where you can purchase pies, chicken pieces, roasts and vegan cheeses and if you time it well, there are quite often manager specials and a penny sales in store where you can get some good deals. This is only on selected items though.

Pros: Vegan essentials, Location, Promotional offers

Late variety of chilled vegan food

I was very happy to find lots of ‘Cheatin’, ‘Fry’s Family’ and and ‘Dragonfly’ chilled products which can often be found reduced or on offer. Very central and friendly staff.

central and reliable

This store is much improved since it moved to larger and more accessible premises in the centre of Durham. It's a nice bright and fresh store with a good selection of refrigerated and frozen vegan products. They always sell the old reliable products such as Frys and Vbites but also add new products to the vegan market such as the fantastic Torfurky. I like to stock up when they have one of their buy one get one half price offers on.

Pros: good selection of vegan products, great central location

Indispensable!

I don't think I'd find it easy to survive as a vegan here without an H&B. There's some vegetarian and vegan frozen options available in Tesco as well, but the fridge section (vegan cheese, yoghurt and more) is completely indispensable. I wasn't thrilled with the own-brand B vitamin supplements I bought, the caplets are unnecessarily large and fishy-tasting. Also, own-brand nuts, seeds etc. are overpriced. However, there's a great selection of vegan essentials as well as junk food.

Pros: Wide variety of vegan products and substitutes., Wide variety of supplements., Staff are friendly and well-informed.

Cons: Some wholefoods (nuts etc.) are overpriced., Only one type of vegan protein powder.
