Great menu, mediocre food and service - Edit
We ate at Herbivores twice during our visit to Kona. Their menu is excellent for vegans who are also gluten free, with many options to choose from. Our first visit, we tried the nachos with vegan chicken, taro burger, tofu poke bowl and jackfruit sandwich. The taro burger was underwhelming at best. The poke was just ok. The nachos were ok, but the chicken was extremely bland. The jackfruit sandwich was the best item of the bunch. The side of purple potatoes was depressing (boiled, sliced potatoes with no seasoning). The next visit, we ordered breakfast food which was better (although easier to make a decent bagel with vegan cream cheese and tomatoes!) - and three cheers for gluten free bagels! However, we ordered and waited right by the window for over 30 minutes and the food never came out! We peered inside and tried to figure out what was going on. Finally we went back to the counter to find out where our food was, and they told us it was just sitting there, but no one bothered to tell us the food was ready. Im glad Herbivores exists, but wish they would up their game on flavors and service.

Don’t have enough nice things to say about this place. Not only was the food amazing, but on each table they had reading material about the benefits of veganism. Highly recommend the Caesar Salad & the rice paper BLT.

We went for lunch and it was so good. It’s a cute little shack with outdoor seating but it IS literally in a parking lot so not really scenic. We got the chili dog and the bbq jackfruit and dragon fruit smoothies. Everything was incredibly delicious and the portions were good sizes. We will certainly be back!

Quality Vegan Pizza - Edit
I ate here again... and the pizza is pretty damn good. The toppings were absolutely delicious, but the undercarriage was undercooked. When I inevitably return, I’ll ask for the pizza “well done”.

Came twice for lunch and had the jackfruit nachos both times because they are that good (and I really love nachos). The Poke Bowl is simple and healthy, The Chili Dog is heavy and decadent, Taro Burger has a soft and comforting texture, and the Walnut Tacos were downright delicious but extremely messy to eat as "tacos."

We went here for lunch and got the jackfruit nachos (the bomb) and a strawberry cheesecake (yum!) and some kombucha to wash it down. Everyone here is so nice and there is plenty of shaded seating with umbrellas and canopies. Highly recommend. We are trying out some pizza and salad for dinner tonight!

Herbivores is basically a shack in a parking lot, which is strange, but the food and comfort of eating somewhere fully vegan is worth it. They had no problem serving my food in my own containers, which is great. I only wish I'd had much chances to go to Herbivores to try more of the menu!

We went twice for dinner and once for breakfast. The Greek pizza was delicious - excellent cheesy toppings. For breakfast we had warm cinnamon rolls which were excellent. Though the seating is in a parking lot it’s a nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We went their at 8am for breakfast, I had one of their breakfast burritos and my girlfriend had their vegan Macmuffin with a dragon fruit smoothie, every item was super tasty, we left with a glazed doughnut and a cinnamon bun, we were that impressed we went back for more in the evening and again that didn’t disappoint.

Great vegan food on the big island - Edit
On vacation last month my husband and I had a great lunch here. Yes, seating is in a parking lot but it is comfortable and nicely setup. I really didn’t mind it. The nachos were delicious as well as the dragon fruit smoothie. If we were staying longer I would have gone again for another meal. Delicious 😋

What a wonderful surprise to discover this place! I had a hot dog and my non-vegan husband has a burger, both so good and well served. We also had a wonderful home made limonade for only 3$ !
