Tons of variety in the menu, super friendly staff! I would’ve posted pictures, but I ate my food too quickly. Also, try the dragonfruit smoothie 🎇

Amazing!

The staff is so kind! I got the chick’n sandwich and some kombucha and it was so good. I will be back before the end of my trip! If you park in the parking lot though you do have to pay for parking and it’s almost 8$ an hour

Pros: All vegan, Outdoor seating , Kind staff

Cons: Parking lot is pay to park

Very good vegan food with outdoor seating

My daughter is vegan and had jackfruit pulled “pork” twice while here in Kailua-Kona. She really liked it. I had the bowl with brown rice- it was good and very filling. My husband had the “tuna” salad. He really enjoyed it. We shared the dragon fruit smoothie- it was good but expensive at almost $10. Nice to have a fully vegan restaurant option.

Pros: Fully vegan

Cons: Good to have outdoor seats but in a parking lot

Healthy & Creative!

I really appreciate the creative menu items and drinks. The nachos were absolutely delicious. The chickpea salad was a good healthy option. Very fresh. This is like a food truck type thing in a parking lot so casual vibes for sure. I also loved the cute vegan messages and laminated cards at the tables. I wanted my non vegan friends to read them 😈😇

Pros: So many options 😊😊😊, Healthy and indulgent choices but overall healthy

Cons: Just a parking lot (but they’ve made it cute!)

Disappointed!

We had quite a disappointing experience here.
15 minutes after our order was taken, we were told that they forgot to tell us earlier that they had run out of patties. By the time we got our food, 40 minutes had passed.
We got the pona burger and the chicken sandwich. Both were very bland. They were both seasoned only with mayo and ketchup, not too great!
We also got the nachos for the table. The jackfruit topping was well-made and the dish was addictive.
The dragonfruit smoothie was good too. I liked that it was less sweet and quite filling.
The ingredients seemed fresh overall.

Happy Herbivore

What a great way to start one's day! Friendly service with a great menu. They made a comfortable seating area. Chef Jeffrey came out and introduced himself. We really enjoyed the meal. We highly recommend and we will be back. Happy 4th Anniversary to Herbivores in Kona!

I don't understand the hype

Because this place was so highly rated we made sure to make the drive to get some yummy vegan food during our trip to Hawaii. First, let me say the prices are just too high. We were able to get better vegan food at/near the resorts and the price was either the same or less in some instances. Regardless of the high price, the banana berry smoothie was delicious (5/5 rating). We ordered two vegan pizzas (alfredo pizza and the meat lovers pizza) and they weren't very good (1/5 rating). The dough was bleh and they put way too much sauce. Ordered the "chicken" caesar salad (1/5 rating). Ordered two chocolate chip cookies (2/5 rating), one of the cookies was okay but the second one was hard as a rock. And lastly, ordered a cream pie cookie (4/5 rating) this was really good and not super sweet. I felt it was important to add this review bc other people have raved about how amazing the food is and it's really just okayyy but when you factor in how overpriced it is for what you get then it's even worse.

Pros: Fun vegan facts on tables

Cons: expensive, food

Disappointed

I had the BLT in October and the bacon was like paper - the sandwich was really dry. It was rated high so I was excited to try it! Just wasn’t what I expected. We also didn’t get our lemonades until the meal was finished as they didn’t have ice until then. Just all around disappointing.

Cons: Bacon was paper thin, Ran out of ice

Delicious vegan food with a Hawaiian flair

We were here three years ago on our last trip to Kona and were soooo happy Herbivores survived the pandemic. They have a variety of delicious vegan food, some with a Hawaiian flair! We were in Kona for a week and ate six meals here. Yes, it’s that good! 😋.

And character?!? Yes!! Herbivores sits in the middle of a parking lot— it is cute and quirky with lots of great reading materials on veganism and nutrition on the tables. (There is ONLY outdoor seating and the number of covered seats has expanded since last time.)

Especially good: the breakfast burrito, barbecue jackfruit sandwich, Pono burger, jackfruit nachos, dragonfruit smoothie, and of course the chocolate cake—rich and chocolatey but not too sweet! (And the chocolate chip cookies too!) Enjoy!!

Pros: Food has a Hawaiian flair

Cons: Most sandwiches come with potato chips

Tons of healthy and tasty options

We tried the Poke Bowl, Tuna Salad, and Oatmeal Cream Pie for lunch. Everything seemed fresh and healthy, and was tasty.

We returned for dinner and had the Animal Lover's Pizza and Banana Bread. It was probably less healthy, but certainly no less tasty.

Everything was a little more expensive than we are used to from California, but probably pretty reasonable for this area. Definitely worth it.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, Outdoor seating

When in Kona…

A visit to Herbivores is a must! Vegans and non-vegans alike love the food here! Jackfruit Nachos are my fave with the BLT coming in a very close second. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with the S’Mores bar!

What more could you want

We came on our last day in Kona, but wish we had come earlier! We had split the BLT (simple but extremely convincing), and the jackfruit nachos (fresh, and so so good). Everyone was relaxed and friendly! We could hear lots of laughing and joking as we ate our food, really awesome vibe. We will be back.

So much yummy vegan food!!

We ordered three entrees and three desserts and everything was delicious! We are excited to go back and try more! Their dining patio was very cute and I loved the vegan literature they included at each table (a non-vegan member of our group looked through it!).

Pros: Lots of vegan food!, Yummy and good portion sizes, Variety of delicious desserts

Cons: Not much seating available
