Great under-the-radar vegan option in Bishop - Edit
This food truck took me by surprise. I come to Bishop at least once per year for camping/climbing. It was cold enough that me and my partner decided to eat out most nights instead of freezing by our camp stove.
Read moreI’m usually wary of food trucks, as they rarely are where they say they'll be, or have odd hours. Helena's is in a lot with two taco trucks, all of which seem to be there permanently. I didn’t see vegetarian/vegan on the menu posted on the side of the truck, but when I asked the proprietor, she immediately told me what she could do for me. We ordered pho and spring rolls.
The mock duck pho was delicious. The broth was light but flavorful, and the bean sprouts and other toppings were fresh. We ended up reusing the pho bowl as our camp bowls for the rest of the trip.
The spring rolls had crispy tofu inside and were really good. She told me she even had vegan fish sauce, which I was so glad about. Fish sauce is one of those pesky ingredients in asian food that pops up everywhere, so I’m glad she was cognizant of it.
Worth a stop if you're visiting Bishop!!
Pros: Accommodating proprietor, Knowledge of dif between vegetarian and vegan, The pho is really good
Cons: Vegetarian menu not posted, found online. , No covered seating option
