Amazing! - Edit
Lovely food. Really enjoyed the burger with bacon. Love some of the smokey flavours used. Enjoyed a bread with tomato sauce type starter that was surprisingly tasty. Also once had the fish cakes which were decent. Wish there were more places like this around.

Used to be better - Edit
You can tell harmonium has grown in popularity as they don’t feel the need to acknowledge customers! The food seemed more bland than it was before- it used to be my favourite place last year. Some portions are ridiculously small for the price. Such a shame. I hope they get their act together soon.

Delicious food! - Edit
Tried Harmonium tonight while staying in Edinburgh and absolutely loved it. We managed to get a table on Saturday night at quite short notice and the staff were all very friendly. Had pizza and a burger which were both really tasty but the winner was the passion fruit glazed lemon cheesecake! Best dessert I’ve had in a long time. Going back tomorrow😄

Scottish breakfast - Edit
Ordered the breakfast platter, came with vegan hagis (best part of the dish), blood sausage, tofu scramble, and a couple of other items. I'm not much of a breakfast person but it tasted good, decor was adorable!

Not Great - Edit
I lived next to Mono since 2006 (and frequented it, Stereo & The Flying Duck for years) so I'm pretty familiar with the menu style and atmosphere in Harmonium. Moved back to Edinburgh recently and thought I should try it out, having been to most vegan places in both cities. Had the 'calamari', mac & cheese side and baked celeriac then an oat hot chocolate. The calamari was very odd (tasted like a biscuity onion ring), nothing we ate was seasoned at all (veg strips on the main didn't have a grain of salt on them) and as a result didn't really taste of anything. Even the hot chocolate didn't seem to have any chocolate in it - just a warm mug of milk. The prices aren't competitive either, especially considering it isn't in the best area and is a bit of a trek to get to. Atmosphere is OK but nothing special - tables were weirdly close together. It's a shame as Edinburgh is really in need of somewhere less pretentious than David Bann but more exciting than Henderson's. That said you definitely get more for your money at Henderson's. By the look of the menu at Harmonium, this is what you'd expect to see here but in practice it doesn't really deliver.

Great start, but got sick - Edit
We had dinner here. Started off with the mushroom scallops and laverbread cakes. Both were absolutely amazing and if I would only be reviewing the staters I would tell you this is the best vegan restaurant in the world! However, for mains we both had the to-fish and chips and it was really really greasy. We both got sick afterwards which was a shame. Wish we would have picked another main dish.

I wish I had found it sooner! - Edit
Went here for lunch on a Wednesday, my last day in Edinburgh (this visit at least). I loved the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, so I stayed for quite a while. I had the Jackfruit Kuzhambu. They asked if I wanted it with rice or chips. I said chips and it came with both plus flatbread, which was nice! Also a very good cask ale (Leith Juice) brewed just up the road. After that I had the rum and chocolate mousse which was absolutely fantastic - I would come here again just for that! I would also return to try some of the other delicious looking menu items.

Best pizza ever - Edit
We rocked up without a reservation and luckily they were able to squeeze us in. It was well worth the wait, the pizza with salami and beef was amazing. My friend ordered this and I had the linguine and I had real food envy! We ended up getting a second pizza to take away! I would advise you to make a reservation though!

Usually great - Edit
Harmonium has lots of great vegan options. I'd particularly recommend the smaller dishes and the burgers.
Read moreUnfortunately the service is so-so and when it gets busy the food can suffer too. Though we still enjoy visiting Harmonium we've had a couple of bad experiences that make us wary of bringing people there.

Some of the best vegan food we had in Edinburgh. - Edit
We really enjoyed our experience at Harmonium. The one downside was showing up without a reservation as they were totally full for the evening. Thankfully there was a small table available outside. It was a bit chilly but we still were ok with it. We tried the “calamari”, to-fish and chips with traditional mushy peas, mac n cheese, mouse for dessert, and a couple cocktails. Everything was fantastic! And the staff were really nice. Highly recommend.

Perfect! - Edit
Have been looking for this place!!! Had an idea in my mind of the perfect vegan venue. Somewhere I’d like to own/work/eat.. and this is it. Beautifully presented. Cool and comfortable decor, nice little touches-flowers and candles in gin bottles-love it. The front of house service person was extremely polite, friendly and onto it. Didn’t grab her name but had a chat, very present person and super knowledgeable about the menu, even down to the ingredients and cooking methods. Ordered the tofu fish and chips with Mac n cheese side. Really delicious, perfect batter, seaweed gave it the desired ocean flavour, chips were nice-I prefer crunchy but you can’t please everyone and came with a nice chunk of yummy buttered bread. Mac n cheese was creamy and tasty. Left room for dessert-was torn as I saw the Sunday served to another table-looking incredible but was really in the mood for something chocolatey so went for the spiced rum chocolate mousse and a serve of vanilla ice cream with a flat white coffee. HEAVENLY!! Just enough rum to give flavour with no overpowering alcohol taste, nicest vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had-vegan or otherwise, coffee a little bit of the good bitterness you want. Dreamy plant based experience, am going back today and would frequently if I was local-(tourist). Also I asked for a virgin Mohito, which isn’t on the menu and she produced the best one I’ve ever had-not on menu. Love seeing and tasting plant based food and service done this well. Bravo!!!

Love Harmonium. The food is always delicious and it's a nice space. Staff are good too. Gutted they removed their rigatoni dish from the menu though as it was my favourite.

Edited review - Edit
Edit: so so disappointed, I went for a 3rd visit to try the new menu with friends, it took over an hour and a half to get our mains and the restaurant was not full, at no point did the staff warn us there would be a delay. We ordered 3 of the new pizzas, they were drowning in really inedible fake cheese, none of us managed to finish them. When the waitor asked how it was, we politely gave feedback, to which he stared at us and wandered away without saying a word. The whole situation was made so much more awkward than it needed to be. I definitely won't be going again. What a disappointment.

Great vegan pub food - Edit
Having visited several times, including once with non-vegan in-laws, the food here is very impressive. I've enjoyed both the original and new (end of May 2018) menu. My father-in-law tried one of your pizzas, and when later asked what he thought of the vegan pizza he asked "was that vegan?" Pretty ringing endorsement. Harmonium really is my favourite pizza in Edinburgh, and the new chocolate run mousse is not to be missed!
