SO Delicious

Best food I had in Brighton!

Omg. The food here is so delicious. Cooked so beautifully. I had rainbow sushi roll and cauliflower pops. Filling was so good and delicious batter on cauliflower.

Lovely decor and still and sparkling water on tap. I wish I lived in Brighton so I could come here all the time! Thank you! 🙏

Pros: All vegan, Ethical, Lovely staff

Best sushi bowl ever

I was blown away by the food here. So tasty! And bonus, it wasn’t all cold like sometimes these bowls can be. Warm rice and potatoes, delicious blend of flavours.

Pros: Delicious food, Free still and sparkly water on tap, Pay what price you like

Still The Best Sushi 🍣

I visited the original Happy Maki venue a few years ago, and then again at Vegan Campout. So we thought we'd try the new venue on Sydney Street and it's still the best sushi ever! Now even better with the vegan Lemon Cod and vegan Salmon. Highly recommend this community based cafe. The staff are so friendly.

Pros: Good seating area , Good portion sizes , Large menu

Tasty

Although there was a reduced menu choice the day we visited (no bowl options) we had a couple of rolls, tofu pockets, edamame beans and cauliflower sides between two. Cauliflower was amazing and the rolls tasty and filling.

Pros: A rare vegan Japanese restaurant, Eat in or takeaway

Super smashing sushi

We ordered the fully loaded (grrr) and the hoisin 'duck'. It was amazing. So tasty and so so fresh.

They work on a donation system so you can pay the reccomneded price or a little more if you feel like it.

Pros: Really fresh

Delicious and fresh!

Really tasty and all made fresh. Sadly the options with chick’n weren’t available due to supply issues but what we did have was really nice.

Highly recommend the cauliflower wings which are the best I’ve ever tasted.

You also pay what you feel - so a price is given to show what the items cost to make and then you can decide what to pay. An interesting approach.

Updated from previous review on 2021-07-31

Pros: Fully vegan, Lots of choice

Cons: The lack of chick’n was a shame

One of my favourite vegan places in Brighton!

I love love love Happy Maki! There's a good range of different sushi rolls, all delicious but my favourites are the "duck" one and fully loaded. And the sides are delicious too, especially the popcorn cauliflower. The pay as you feel system is a good idea too. It's one of the best vegan places in Brighton, and that's saying a lot!

Pros: All vegan. Quick for take away and near the beach

Cons: Non!

there is nothing like the cod sushi burrito

First time I went to Happy Maki I was overwhelmed with choice, so asked the server what they recommend. They said the Crispy Cod, which would have been my last choice as it sounded odd. However they convinced me and oh my goodness - absolutely brilliant and unique. I have tried all the rest however there is just nothing like the cod. Their BLT for Veganuary was great though! Pay as you feel is a great initiative. No plastic packaging as long as you don't get sauce with the sides. Where else can you get sushi burritos? Go to Happy Maki!!

Pros: All vegan, Pay as you feel, Little plastic packaging

Amazing sushi-rrito

We were visiting Brighton for the day and tried Happy Maki for the first time and weren’t disappointed, though two rolls and two sides for two people was more than plenty! Recommend the loaded chickn roll and the Christmas cauliflower pieces. We had to queue outside for covid reasons though once we got in the staff were genuinely friendly and chatty which prompted me to leave this review. We’ll be back :)

Pros: Fully vegan, Huge portions, Great customer service

Cons: No cutlery

Great vegan sushi burritos

This place offers absolutely delicious all-vegan sushi burritos with various fillings. I had one with crispy chicken mock meat and a banana milk and I loved every bit of it. You need to try this whenever you're in Brighton!

Pros: all vegan , quick service, friendly staff

Cons: you can only sit in the basement to eat in

Great service, DELICIOUS food, donations to charities

Great pay-as-you go for charities + trees planted for every wrap. On top of that, the food was INCREDIBLE. We came back for seconds but unfortunately came too late and it was closed. DEFINITELY recommended!

Pros: Great friendly service, Delicious food, Positive impact/charities
