Trans and biphobic owner

It’s a shame because of Happy Maki’s good vegan food but recently the owner Anna Macdonald has made transphobic and biphobic comments, then forced her employees to quit or be fired with 4 weeks notice. You can read the team’s full statement @unhappymaki on Instagram but basically Macdonald believes that being gender disphoria is an illness caused by spirits controlling your soul. When staff wanted To address these statements Macdonald in effect fired them. If these issues are addressed to the satisfaction of the affected employees I’d return but at the moment I cannot call them an ethical business

Pros: Decent vegan food

Cons: Not LGBTQA+ friendly , Unethical employment practices

Transphobic Owner

Please look up 'unhappy maki' for more information. The owner has made her transphobic beliefs very clear. As vegans, we should oppose the oppression of humans and non-human animals alike. If you would like to genuinely support trans people, please do not support transphobic businesses, no matter how tasty their food is.
