Best concept in the world! - Edit
The Gift economy. Read about it, and it makes you wonder why we didnt start with that kind of economy in the first place!
Read moreHappy Maki is fully vegan, socially and ethically as good as perfect, and food tastes great too! Never felt this good to pay for food as at Happy Maki!
I cannot comprehend in any way why there are people abusing the gift economy at Happy Maki, besided ppl who are really really poor.
Hopefully they can educate ppl about the gift economy some more, so it can grow more and more!
Pros: Fully Vegan, Gift economy, Social and ethical enterprise

Great meal and concept - Edit
Very cool little vegan spot, with a great assortment of sushi ‘burrito’ rolls. They currently have a payment system in place which allows you to pay what you want for food and drink, which is unique. Really enjoyed the fully loaded roll, it was flavourful and substantial.

Loved It - Edit
100% vegan options in a lovely setting, Happy Maki is run as a not for profit with all profits going towards planting trees and donating meals to children in need. Food was delicious - highly recommended the popcorn cauliflower with teriyaki.

Really yummy but cant forget the controversy - Edit
I do feel conflicted about eating here after all the beef here a few years ago. But the bowl was super yummy and the idea of sushi burritos are really really cool. The miso sauce was AMAZING and i always love having mangos in my salad.

Healthy and tasty - Edit
This is their second permanent place in Brighton. It’s bigger than their original venue and has a few more options. Really tasty poke bowls and the sushi ‘burrito’ wraps are really filling and a good ‘on the go’ option. Great for meat free alternatives too either things like mock duck and (very convincing) mock crab on the menu. No alcohol. More of a daytime than evening vibe.

Beyond friendly - Edit
Without a doubt some of the best vegan sushi we've ever had, we tried the duck and the cod, and both were great (but I'd say the cod was the best)

Generous, healthy, delicious, and saving the oceans! - Edit
I love, love, love Happy Maki. All their sushi burritos, bowls and smoothies are made fresh to order, which means to can ask certain ingredients not to be included. They’re very conscious of allergies too. The ingredients are fresh and healthy, and the portions are a good size, leaving you feeling nourished and satisfied. And it really all is so delicious!
Read moreMy favourites are the hoisin “duck” sushi burrito, the rainbow salad, the popcorn cauliflower with satay sauce, and a peanut fudge for desert. Free spring water on tap, still or sparkling!
Perhaps most importantly, Happy Maki is a non-profit that works on the gift economy and only charges you cost price for the meals. You have the option of paying more (or less) and any extra you pay goes towards saving the oceans. Plus, for every meal you buy, a tree is planted and a child is fed.
The downside to their generosity is that many people have been paying far too little for the meals, which means this non-profit restaurant is running on a deficit. Please consider donating more than the cost price if you go! The food and service it well worth it, and it would be so sad to see this place close down because people take advantage of Happy Maki’s generosity and good faith. Besides, the prices are great to begin with and the food is sooooo worth it.

You'll leave feeling like one happy chappy! - Edit
Always been a 'must visit' spot ever since I tasted the delights of happy maki sushi at a vegan fair once upon a time. Shared the rainbow roll and Caulipop - both amazing with incredible flavours. They have a huge selection available meaning you can easily visit this place multiple times and if a sushi burrito isn't your thing, you can try a sushi bowl. When paying, you have the option to pay cost price or donate more/pay less in line with their 'not for profit' concept.

Delightful - Edit
Great vegan sushi burrito! Superb selection of flavours - great concept re the "not for profit" so that people are given a base cost guide price and then can add their own mark up which is then donated to a good cause! Staff were really nice and friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating - outdoor seating was great to sit in when its sunny. Would highly recommend!
