Burrito + Maki = Happy

I would have never thought of it but there is something very satisfying eating maki like a burrito. They had a stand at the Vegan Campout 2023 so it was the occasion for us to try it. So yummy! I wish it wasn't that niche though, because now I would love to find sushi burritos anywhere but it's actually quite rare :)

Lovely sushi wraps

A really interesting spot for a quick lunch or dinner, the sushi wraps are large rolls of sushi rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in seaweed. I went for "sweet chicken" which was sota chunks with avocado, carrots, peppers and sweet chilli sauce. We also had a side of cauliflower bites with a satay dip - they were deliciously crunchy with a firm middle (not mush like they can sometimes end up as) and I'd happily recommend both dishes.

I want all the sushi now!

Before going vegan I never liked sushi so I was still nervous about trying it after becoming vegan. I tried it at the 2023 Vegan Camp Out and now I love it.

Pros: Flavours were delicious , Good value for money , Big portions

Would definitely recommend

I had the sushi bowl with avocado and "salmon", spring onions and mango mayo. It was delicious. I would switch out the spring onions for nori if I chose this combo again. A friend had the crispy "chicken" which was also great. The people were lovely and the place is bright and friendly.

Would definitely come here again if I'm in the area and can 100% recommend this place.

Pros: Many choices , Affordable, Tasty

Great

Travelled from Newcastle for the day and had a duck maki roll, "salmon", and miso soup. Roll was incredible and the vegan salmon was almost uncanny in how closely it resembled actual salmon. Food was excellent with reasonable prices.
Staff were super friendly and accommodating in making my first ever trip to Brighton enjoyable

Lovely meal for a great price!

I had a lovely Happy Salmon bowl and shared three loaded satay pockets, which were so tasty! I spent £12.27 individually which I think is thoroughly reasonable for Brighton and for most places in the south (if not the rest of the country)! It filled me up so much I could only have a bowl of soup for dinner with some small sides.

Pros: Yummy, Good value, Delicious

Amazing sushi burrito

I tried the hoisin burrito; I was so hungry and worried it wouldn’t be enough but it was filling. The flavour was delicious and service was quite fast. You can fill up your water bottle here too.

Exellent place, excellent bowls

A good place with a refreshing 'pay what you want' business model, and great food. I particularly recommend the sunshine bowl

Very Happy Maki

Recommend by a friend and oh! Was she right!
Took my mum with me up the stairs into a chilled out very friendly place. Loved all the options to personalise our salad bowls which were delicious 💚 one of the best We’ve had, full of flavour and many fresh ingredients. Will be back to try the rest of the menu for sure.
Love the concept and option of paying that bit extra to a ‘gift economy’ & a not for profit company who do give back to help others in need 🙏 what a breath of fresh air in a world obsessed with low wages and huge profits!!

Pros: Lots of tasty all Vegan options, Super friendly staff and atmosphere , Love the gift economy and option to pay extra

Cons: None

Vegan sushi burritos to die for

This is honestly one of my favourite places to eat in Brighton. The sushi wraps are so god damn delicious and also their crispy cauliflower. I tell myself that I’m gonna taste all of their different flavoured wraps, but I order the hoisin duck wrap every single time because it’s amazing. They have a chilled sit down restaurant in the north laines which I highly recommend.

Perfect

I've just moved to Brighton and this is my ideal vegan place, my favourite type of food done to perfection. I'm not a big fan of vegan junk food but I need more than a salad. I think I will need self-discipline not to go to Happy Maki every day as I'd like to try each menu item. Mostly all of the dishes were celiac friendly and my meat-eating vegan skeptic friend loved her food too. Staff also super friendly and helpful. We took the food away to eat on the beach but the restaurant was chic and spacious. I'll definitely be back (again and again) and will remember to take pictures!

Pros: Perfect food that's also healthy, Fast and friendly service, Chic atmosphere

Cons: None

Stunning food and concept

A delicious place that has something for everyone! I'm vegan and my friend is celiac, and we all loved this place. The duck sushi burrito was pretty good, filling with no overpowering flavours. The cauliflower popcorn is where it's at. The batter is absolutely gorgeous with flakes of rock salt. The tofu pockets are also nice and juicy, and the satay sauce is also lovely and creamy. Definitely will go again to try all the different flavours. The friendly staff and the whole ethos behind the place is the cherry on top. Make sure to leave a big donation!

Friend has been nagging me for years to visit this place! (I’m glad I did!)

A friend recommended this place years ago but I always put it off and had a burger elsewhere.

Today I made it and I loved it and I regret not trying it years ago!

The ‘BLT’ burrito I had beat my expectations and was absolutely delicious! The flavour was unique. I’ve never tried anything like it before! I also had the Miso soup and that was pretty good too!

I also like the ethos of this place and how it runs on gifts/donations. Interesting concept and I love it! Finally the staff were all super friendly.

If you do visit remember to ‘donate’ more or equalling the recommended cost! Don’t be that guy who pays 41% less! That’s mean!

Really amazing

This place is a nonprofit that does their pricing in a very unique and interesting way. The menu is fully vegan and amazing! I had a sushi burrito and the cauliflower bites, both were very tasty! I really liked the vibe of the restaurant and the incredibly friendly staff also. Would definitely recommend coming to eat here!!

Real Happy Me/aki

This wholesome place is one of the reason I come back to Brighton every year in May (The Great Escape Festival being the main reason;). Their sushi burritos are delicious (my current fav is the Sweet Chili Chick £7.80) and made rapidly in front of you. The concept of the restaurant (non-profit) and costs transparency are great. It probably would be ma favourite take-away on earth if they used local, seasonal and organic products.

Pros: fast, Non-profit restaurant

Amazing food, great values

I love Happy Maki for their food and values. Every burrito, bowl and side I’ve tried have been delicious. The flavours and textures are perfect. Large space inside to sit on long, shared benches. Service is always quick and friendly, even when there have been queues at weekends.
