Fantastic to find a vegan menu in this area but....

This area is a desert for vegan or alternative ways of living and eating, so we were excited to find a traditional pub with a separate vegan menu. The choices sound amazing but sadly the tastes don’t quite live up to the intention or the price. A gigantic cauliflower steak that was basically a thick slice of cauliflower boiled and then griddled with water leaking out into the side sauce of a tablespoon of poor romesco.

The thing that really annoys us, though, is a place getting pretentious with a description of a ‘raisin and apple ragout’ and then serving a scattering of dried up currants and some bits of raw chopped Granny Smith.

Desserts were good but just too expensive for not fantastic food

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Lovely village

Cons: Expensive, Very expensive, Poor understanding of flavourful vegan cooking
