Tasty gelato

While the vegan options are indeed relatively few, considering the menu size, they are still a lot compared to other Taiwanese ice cream parlours, and the flavour is exquisite, just like proper Gelato. I hope that someday they might also sell vegan waffles, otherwise I always come here for a visit when in Taichung, since it just in walking distance from the train station.

One scoop costs NTD 100, two NTD 180, three NTD 255. A waffle bowl (not vegan) costs an extra NTD 20, and turning it into a sundae an extra NTD 80. Regular toppings are free of charge.

Lacking enough vegan options

A friend who was visiting from out of town wanted to try the famous ice cream made by Dawn Cakes, so I needed to figure out what options I had. The staff didn’t understand when I asked her to tell me which options are vegan; instead, she tried directing me to the cashier end to order. But when I asked her, “Which ones have no egg, dairy, or honey?” She was able to point out the few that are. (See listing description.) The sorbet that sounded most interesting was the one that I got (guava leaves, native pineapple, passion fruit, and apple). Its Chinese name means, “Tomorrow will be even better.” I wish they continued handing out samples so that I could taste it and make an informed decision, but I understand that handling all those used sample spoons is probably not the best idea right now. 😷

The seating area upstairs is my favorite: you can see how they reused the fixtures from the original bank. And the bathrooms are fit for a king!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both this location and the Miyahara one are offering BOGO everything if you’re wearing a face mask, so don’t forget your mask! They were also keeping parties separate by strategically putting a “reserved” sign on every other table.

Pros: great bathrooms, a few vegan sorbets, lovely upstairs seating area

Cons: needs more vegan items
