Chocolate croissant! - Edit
When I read ‘chocolate croissant’ on their menu I had to check it out. Can’t remember the last time I had one. The food is delicious, the restaurant itself feels airy, open and that’s the indoors part. We sat outside that day. I look forward to going back to try different things on the menu.

I liked it - Edit
Came here for a date night on our trip to Chicago. It took a lot to make this happen, finding a sitter (grandparents!), taking the train and walking a mile in 103 degree weather but we wanted to go to a super nice place! Nothing was bad, but nothing was “wow!” The portions were very small for the price, and we ended up spending more than double what we had on any other restaurant even with our kids in tow. The eggplant was AMAZING, but the rest of the dish meh. I quite liked the seitan steak but my husband found it bland. And we got the raspberry cheesecake but it was very overwhelming. It would have been nice if the bottom half was plain cheesecake and the top half was raspberry cheesecake or something. Overall, it wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t remarkably better than anything else and we left kinda hungry for way more money. We have some super fancy places in Philly and I expected this would be on par, but it sadly wasn’t.

Beautiful brunch - Edit
The weekend brunch menu has marvelous variety and flavors! Such a cute restaurant and a cafe in between main meal times. The biscuits and gravy are spicy. The baked goods we ordered weren’t super fresh is the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars

Great Dining Experience - Edit
Delicious food, great service, excellent atmosphere! For a great, nicer, sit-down dining experience, Fancy Plants is a great move. Their entrees are good, but they are really know for their appetizers.
Read moreOnly “con” was that they eliminated the 5-course tasting meal option.

Meh - Edit
Funky little place, good service. Food is bland and heavy. Seitan steak was mushy and sitting in a puddle of oil. Breading on fried green tomato and mushroom calamari was dense and thick and reminded me of Shake and Bake. Flat bread was good the next day. I will not return.

I'm sorry to hear Meh.
Read moreMeh, we knead our own seitan using the washed flour method, using a yeast garum as a natural MSG flavoring base, and usually I'm afraid of it being too firm, I'm sorry you found it mushy!
The Chimichurri does have oil in it, but much of it is red wine vinegar, citrus juice, a little agave, and a lot of spices and herbs! It does look like it would be a lot of oil, but it's a traditional sauce that is like 1/4 oil.
I'm so sorry you didn't like your meal, if we can every make it up to you Meh, we'd love to have you back.
Please show this to your server, and we would gladly treat you to an appetizer or drink to compensate you not liking your food this time.
Please do engage them with what you like!
We'd love to help steer you to what you find enjoyable.

Music painfully loud - Edit
I arrived with a reservation on a Sunday evening at about 7:00 pm, but sadly had to leave without eating. The music was exceedingly loud and the staff said they couldn't turn it down. The patio looks nice but no heaters so eating outside at night in early May would be uncomfortable too. I'm bummed because the menu looked really interesting. Gave it 5 stars because I don't want to hurt their business.

Hey, I remember this night!
Read moreYes, Rocket, that was incredibly loud. You are not joking.
The band was good, but we asked them multiple times to chill out on the noise, it is a dining spot, not a concert venue.
We came to an understanding, they will actually be back... to play outside next time! I also suggested they download a Decibel sensing app on their phone, so when the drummer creeps and gets louder, and the rest of the band then creeps and gets louder, they learn to dial it back, so that people actually find their music at an enjoyable level.
I would be so happy to treat you to a lovely appetizer or a drink, as I know that was a painfully loud night, it will not happen again, and I am so sorry, and eager to get you to try us again.
Just show this to your server, and we'll take care of you.
Once again, I sincerely apologize.
Thank you Rocket,,

The ambiance and decor is really nice! There's nice indoor and outdoor dining spaces.
Read moreWe started with the bacon wrapped dates and seared scallops. The bacon was thinly sliced eggplant and the scallops were king oyster mushrooms. The dates were amazing! The scallops were excellent too, and could have used a little more salt.
For mains we had the herb pasta and chimichurri steak. Highly recommend the chimichurri and with a little more salt, the pasta would have been quite good.
For dessert the vegan Tart was excellent. The peppercorn cheesecake was good as well, and could have been a hair sweeter.
Everything was vegan, creative, tasted great, and we plan to go back there! The service was excellent as well!
Pros: Chimichurri seitan steak, Eggplant bacon wrapped dates , Service is excellent

Wanted to love it. Liked it. - Edit
I have been looking forward to visiting since it opened. Overall, disappointed. Came for Easter brunch. Coffee served in a cup with lipstick stain on one side. Very gross. Service was OK — not great. Website indicated bottomless mimosas but they were not available, for some unspecified reason. Menu was fixed price and included an appetizer and main dish — only outstanding dish was the potatoes served as an initial appetizer. French Toast was a huge disappointment. Too heavy and dense, with an overly-sweet and thick “whipped cream” that insulted the already sweet dish with gooey sweetness. There are so many light vegan whipped cream concepts that could have been delicious here. Jaw-dropping bill of $100 each with tip (three drinks and fixed menu). Sadly, I wanted to love it but barely liked it. And that’s being generous.

AMAZING!! - Edit
In addition to being whole food plant-based, I have some pretty significant food allergies that require me to eat with no added oils, gluten, salt and sugar. The chef came to my table to talk through it with me and created the most amazing meal including polenta cakes, shepherds pie and two different kinds of wild mushrooms on a bed of mixed greens.

We had an incredible dining experience at Fancy Plants! The food is pure art and it tasted just amazing. The entire staff was kind, friendly and attentive! Would like to love, but uneven - Edit
Last time my spouse and I ate here, we ordered an appetizer, which was amazingly delicious, and two entrées, both of which were pretty blah. When the chef is on his game, his food is as good as any nationwide. But the foods on the menu tend to be very uneven, some extremely gourmet, others just plain old boring at best. More beta testing for the menu is highly recommended, with some trusted and honest reviewers.

Lovely - Edit
Wonderful variety of options. Husband loved his seitan steak so much I barely got a picture before it disappeared! The saag paneer was tasty and filling but the star of the show was the red lintel cakes that accompanied the dish. I didn’t have any issues with the pricing (it’s Lincoln Park and it seems on par with most healthier option places), as with most restaurants nowadays service can be hit or miss due to staffing and in true farm to table fashion expect to wait a little for your meal as most things are not pre-made but made to order which takes time. I will be back to try more dishes!

Bit disappointed - Edit
I was a big fan of fancy plants cafe - the restaurant unfortunately became just one of many pretentious upscale vegan restaurants. Too expensive, slow service, and on top, our meals today were swimming in oil... The outdoor space is nice and the menu has a lot of different options - but in the end, we left disapppointed and with a bad (oily) aftertaste... Probably won't go again.

The best vegan restaurant in Chicago - Edit
The food is outstanding, the cocktails are amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. Fancy Plants Kitchen is just the best vegan restaurant in Chicago. Last night we ordered the tasting menu, from the Flatbread Pizzetas to the Grilled Peach Salad to the Strawberry Shortcake, chef Kevin is a master chef. Check it out! We'll go back soon.

Food is tasty, but pricing/service could use work. - Edit
EDIT: We came back here for brunch recently and had a much better experience. Portions were very large and felt a lot more fair given the price. Food tasted great, especially the waffles. Breakfast burrito was HUGE. Service was good, but we were also the only people there. I’ve updated my pros/cons and overall rating. Would definitely return.
Read morePREVIOUS REVIEW: I’ll start with the pros: the menu is varied, and most things we ordered were good. Nothing amazing or mind blowing, but good. Our favorites were the burger, mushroom shepherds pie, and karaage.
Service was not good. Our waiter never brought us out waters until we asked for it. It took a while to get our food even though the place was only half full. For one of the dishes we ordered, the waitress said she would bring us plates so we could share and she just never came back.
My other big issue with this place is the portion sizes and pricing. For the prices listed, the portions are just WAY too small. Even the “big plates” that were 15-16 dollars a piece were slightly larger than an appetizer. We ended up having to order more food after everything showed up because we were still hungry. This place is definitely not budget friendly. Ended up spending almost 150 dollars for 2 people.
