Delicious pizza

The pizza here is SO GOOD. The dough is perfect, the sauce perfect and the vegan cheese creamy.
BUT I wish there was more vegan options. There are no vegan toppings (not even vegetables).
I would still recommend this place though as the pizza is so delicious. They also do takeout and the staff are really lovely.

No more vegan pizzas!

Please be aware that they no longer have vegan cheese or vegan pizzas!

The menu now has only one vegan option on it, a "marinara" pizza, which is tomato sauce on dough. I asked if they had other vegan options or vegan cheese and they said no; they recently re-opened and re-branded to remove all vegan options from their menu and they no longer stock vegan cheese. I did try the marinara pizza, which you can add vegetables to for an extra charge. It was very basic – not very flavourful, mainly crust, with very thin dough in the middle.

The service was also not very good. We were asked to wait outside, but they then forgot about us and starting seating people who arrived after us. Our server was quite rude and unhelpful. It took him a very long time to take our order and bring the food, and we had to go to the counter to pay as he seemed to forget about us after we ate. It was also a very loud atmosphere (even at lunch time) with bass-y electronic music blasting from the speakers.

I left a Google review reflecting this experience, since the only reason I had gone there was because of the reviews talking about how great the vegan pizza is – I wanted to let other vegans know about the changes to the menu. The owner left an angry comment on my review saying that they are very clear now in their branding that they don't want vegans coming to the restaurant and that I shouldn't come back unless I want a "loud, meat and cheese filled" experience. So all in all, I definitely wouldn't recommend Dough Eyed.

Pros: Some staff members were friendly

Cons: Anti-vegan vibe, Poor service, Loud music

Best vegan pizza in York

Hands down the best vegan pizza I've had in York! York has a bunch of different pizza restaurants and I've tried most if not all of them, and this one definitely wins!! The vegan cheese they use is really unique and not the normal plastic-y cheese used as an alternative, super creamy and good - and the crusts are to die for, so thick and fluffy. The vibes are very good and staff super lovely.
Definitely my pizza place of choice in York!!

Pros: Vegan cheese, Crusts , Good vibe

Delicious and affordable pizza

A pleasant building right in the centre of York, with some tables outside which look over the Shambles market. Note: these tables are wheelchair accessible, so would be fine if ordering from table service, but the toilets and inside the premises are not.

This place knows what it wants to do and does it well. The pizzas are authentic, with delicious fresh dough and great toppings. I had the vegan margherita, which had plenty of vegan cheese and a good tomato base, as well as some yummy oregano leaves on the top. My wife had the same, but vegetarian and said it was fresh and tasty,

The other two vegan options (or options which can be made vegan) are portobello mushroom and truffle and the standard marinara. I've not tried either of these, but would like to. The staff are friendly and the pizzaiole (female pizza makers) were very professional. This place is also a Living Wage employer, so another reason to support them!

They serve some interesting beers and soft drinks so we are planning a visit back soon to sit outside and enjoy a summer pizza.

Pros: Delicious, fresh pizza, Affordable, Friendly staff
