Perfect spot for vegan fish & chips - Edit
Very rare to find a traditional fish & chips shop that has vegan options so this was a great find! We only had chips here as a snack but they had a whole separate menu for vegans. A lovely lil spot right in the centre of York.

Chip Chip Hooray! - Edit
Good chippy option, with a vegan menu, although there was no fish or potato scallop options available when we visited.
Read moreWe really enjoyed the sausage, chips and mushy peas though, which we ate in the upstairs seating area.

Vegan fish and chips - Edit
This place was lovely, so refreshing to have a vegan fish and chips. I also had the batter bits which they did say were not vegan due to being cooked in the same oil as the fish, this isn’t an issue for me as we don’t live in a vegan world and cannot expect everyone to have separate everything! Although the vegan food is cooked separately. A little dissappointed that the vegan fish was a frozen one and not a banana blossom that other shave raved about. Was still very nice all the same and even had vegan tartare sauce.

(Almost) Fish and Chips - Edit
For a “regular” chippy offers a good vegan selection. Everything cooked fresh to order. Good kids option for those carnivore kids. Fair portion size (not ridiculously huge!) Pea protein “fish” was very tasty and fresh and their homemade tartare sauce is vegan.

Cons: Meat and vegan cooked in same fryer? Maybe, Condiment price (50p a pack) is shocking

Not vegan - Edit
Told us they do sometimes cook chips and other vegan items with fish and sausage etc, so not really vegan.

Solid vegan fish and chips - Edit
I was intrigued by the listing describing a banana blossom fish and chips, but as others have mentioned, their menu seems to have changed and they now only have the pea protein option. Still pretty good flavor and interesting to try. Nothing too exciting but the price is pretty low and the food is tasty. Small shop with very little indoor seating, but there's more seating outside with weather permitting.

Family meal - Edit
We called ahead for a collection which was bagged and ready at the agreed time. They no longer sell the banana blossom fish so it's just the pea protein fillet. It's a small fillet but you do get two. Chips were great. We appreciated the vegan options thank you. Would be great to have the banana blossom as an option again or battered Tofu?

Ate here the two vegan fish and chips options. One was banana blossom and the other pea based fish.

Best vegan chippy in UK! - Edit
Has lots of options for eating in and taking away. The sausages have changed recipe a few times and are definitely improving, and the chips are fried separately.
Read moreThey even do vegan tartare sauce!
Have spoken with the owner and they are always keen on feedback and offering more options. They own loopy scoops ice cream next door which now has a vegan soft serve too.

Great chippy - Edit
Been here a few times but never checked if it was on the app! Happily, was passing through York tonight so decided to pop in. They added a pea protein option for the "fish" part, which is much better than the old banana blossom imo (both are delicious mind)

Great “fish” and chips! - Edit
They use banana blossoms for a fish substitute and the texture is really great! Super greasy just like a good chippy should be.

Best vegan fish and chips - Edit
After 20 years as a vegan the only thing I missed was real chip shop fish and chips. These vegan fish and chips are just about the same as I remember the real thing. Excellent!

Vegan fish and chips with vegan tartare sauce - Edit
I had fish and chips and sat outside in the sun. Fish was 2 banana blossoms which were okay. I’m not a vinegar / pickle person and they tasted too vinegary for me (there was no vinegar added to the meal). If you love vinegar / pickles then they’d probably be delicious. When I’ve had this in the past the blossom had been cut so it’s flat (like a fish) which means more batter to blossom ratio. These were whole (short and fat) so the inside retained the softness of the blossom, retaining the strong pickle flavour, losing the fishy shape and fishy taste. I managed one but not both which was a shame - Chips were nice though.
Read moreThe vegan fish and chips are not cheap in comparison to real fish and chips at Mr Chippy! At £8.99 without any condiments the price will put many people off. What a nice surprise to see a full vegan menu flash up on the board though - they also have, vegan sausage and chips £6.99, mushy pea-Evs £3.25, sage and onion Pattie £2.75, potato scallop 75p, large chips £3.40, small chips £2.40, mushy peas £1.59, onion gravy £1.59 and vegan tartare sauce for 99p (see picture of the menu)
For the owners - Banana blossom won’t be as cheap as a cod fillet, but given the quantity of real fish sold in comparison to the few vegan fish, a couple of pence on real fish and chips would level the cost. This will encourage those who simply won’t pay that kind of price for a flower and some potato.
I’ll be back, but it’ll only be to try the sausage and pattie.

Very good vegan options - Edit
They have vegan fish or two types of vegan sausage. I thought from some other pictures that the chip portions were going to be a bit small but it was just right. The 'pea-evs' were great too. Would recommend.

Vegan fish and chips! - Edit
Vegan fish and chips here is AMAZING. Bit pricey and 'fish', chips and peas was enough for two easily (makes a change considering how often a portion of chips leaves one still hungry!)

Good, but definitely not fish and chips - Edit
Cool staff, nice place.
Read moreHowever, if you are looking for vegan fish and chips that tastes like actual fish and chips, then Mr Chippy's option isn't for you. The "fish" tastes like fried banana minus the sweetness (duh, it's banana blossom). There are definitely vegan options much closer to fish out there. Texture somewhere between fish and chicken.
Pros: Yummy
Cons: Taste not even close to fishy, quite pricey (?)
