Chill with chilaquiles and a marg - Edit
We were going to an early gig in Brunswick East, so I booked a table here for afterwards. I’d only been once before for lunch and the bar had been closed, so I was looking forward to tacos and a cocktail. We ordered the chilaquiles as a starter, and this was absolutely delicious, with the superb house-made chorizo and just the right amount of spice heat, and in fact was the highlight of the meal. The phish taco was nice and crisp, a reasonable texture, but all the taco didn’t have a great deal of flavour. The chicken quesadilla was similar, substantial but just OK flavourwise. By the time I got to the carnitas quesadilla I realised we’d ordered too much food, but the cheesy mushroom filling was rich and tasty. I also tried a classic margarita and a mojito, and both hit the spot. With tacos at $6 and cocktails under $20, prices are very reasonable.

I went to this place the other day for the first time and it was lovely, the staff are very friendly and my boy friend and I loved our meal the Mexican Papas loaded chips. I can't wait to try some other stuff there!

Mezcal selection is great but food is hit and miss. - Edit
I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob as I've eaten a lot of excellent vegan Mexican food in the US and Mexico itself. I think this place is good but doesn't quite hit the mark at times. The chorizo isn't very spicy or flavorful (the rest of the quesadilla was good though) and the pastor taco was painfully small with only 2 small slices of chikin and teeny piece of pineapple 😒(tasted really good but not worth the $6!). I actually wonder if they brought it out incomplete. I also wonder how fresh the oil was because there was a particular flavor tasted in each deep fried dish.

As another reviewer mentioned, it is quite loud and boomy in the restaurant, so keep that in mind for what kind of dining experience you're looking for.

Comforting Mexican styled vegan food. Tried a mushroom taco, some frijoles-negras, aguacate-mole, and their churritas con helado. Nothing was disappointing, even their chips for the frijoles were of a superior crispy fresher quality than most in country. Really enjoyed everything about my meal even the goofus host from Boston telling me that they were a vegan restaurant as I went to sit down, I gave him the stank-eye when he said this because it was his jerky way of signaling to me that he didn't think I "looked vegan" and might be lost, which I found insulting and ironic considering my Animal Justice Party T-Shirt and my lean athletic build and sexy beautiful vegan wings that people who have been vegan twenty plus years grow like pegasus. I teased him back by asking if he was from Texas and it just turns out, the person suffers from an escasez of social wit and charm, which is no fault of their own. Despite this güevón, I loved their food and enjoyed watching the conspicuously and overtly beautiful chefs in the kitchen rock out some very tasty fast food mexican, undoubtably Melbourne's best. I told the host I'd be back for their Taco Tuesday deal of $20 for 12 tacos and he mistook that for an opportunity to tell me he wouldn't be working that night as if I was interested in seeing him personally and not the damn tacos. But, please do go in on other nights too as you may get lucky and get to have a small chat with this awkward sweet summer child yourself. Viva La Melbourneo!

We did the all you can eat taco night. Really quick and efficient service. Easy ordering and pay system for sides/drinks/dessert. Only disappointed in the fact that the menu sent out with the confirmation email isn't what's available on the night. Would have loved to have tried more dessert options. Everything we had was brilliant flavour and quality though

Everything I have eaten from Don Taco has been amazing - I've been on a weekend lunchtime and I've had takeaway a couple of times, different food every time. It's all so flavourful and delicious! My favourite filling is the pibil, made from shredded mushroom.

Love that it is all vegan! Mains were small and underwhelming. The soft tacos taste weird. Not nice ones. Wish they had hard taco shells. The chips and the sauce were yum. The fresh guacamole was nice. Vegan alcoholic drinks are yum. The deserts were lovely. We had the flan and the churros.

The place is really loud and echoey. Needs insulation. It's hard to hear your friends. I'll be back for Taco Tuesday.

Quite nicely set up and friendly staff. Went there if 3rd lunch, had as limited menu. Then again for dinner, I like the mushroom tacos we had. Also fried which were fine. The corn dish seems it was canned corn and was nothing special. Deserts are nice, had churros. Would go again but not as my first choice.

It was so difficult deciding what to order because everything looked so good! We ended up choosing the schnitzel taco and the baja phish taco, they were both absolutely delicious and a perfect balance of fried and fresh. We got this with the feast for two which includes a choice of soft drink. My friend and I weren’t keen on a drink and said we’d just skip out on it... so the staff member offered to give us extra churros! So nice of them 😍

The chips and corn are really good. The tacos and torta are good, but not amazing. I was a bit underwhelmed. It wasn't bad at all though. The service was fantastic. If I was nearby like at a gig at whole lotta love and needed some food, I'd go back. But I wouldn't travel again for it or go there for a special occasion again. I like that everything is vegan though.

It was a beautiful evening for a picnic in Melbourne and so my friend ordered the date night feast with an extra set of tacos. We had the chorizo, the schnitzel and the chickpea tacos. The chickpeas was the one we liked the least but we did love the chorizo and the schnitzel.
Read moreThe sauces and guacamole and tomato/onion toppings were delicious and full of flavour. With the date pack we also got fries which we both liked. The dessert was amazing. Churros with a chocolate sauce. I really enjoyed this. We also had 2 soft drinks. It was great value.
Definitely will be getting another picnic meal from here soon.
