Phenomenal!

I was a bit wary to go to a restaurant in the forest in the country side of Japan, as this is not the most vegan-friendly part of the world, outside of big cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. But this may have been one of my favorite meals in Japan! We called in the morning to make a reservation for a 1 o'clock lunch. They have two lunch services, at 11 am and 1 pm, and it's recommended that you make a reservation for one of them. We were a bit nervous getting there, as the road goes through the forest, and we weren't sure what exactly we were getting ourselves into, but Google Maps directions and the many signs for the restaurant along the road easily lead us to our destination.
At lunch time you choose between a chef's recommended lunch and a pasta lunch. The chef's lunch includes six assorted appetizers, a soup, and a choice from three pasta dishes and risotto, while the pasta lunch includes three assorted appetizers, a soup, and a choice from three pasta dishes. You add a drink and dessert to your lunch, and depending on the type, it could be free or at a small additional cost.
We both ordered the chef's recommended lunch (1580 yen). I got the tiramisu (+220 yen) and the cinnamon spice tea (+50 yen), and my husband got the crème brûlée (+100 yen) and coffee (+100 yen). The appetizers were incredible, every single one of them bursting with flavor! They were a seasonal greens salad, open grilled fava beans, zucchini mousse with a pasta cracker, vegan carpione, homemade vegan cheese, homemade yeast ancient wheat cake, and the soup of the day was red radish and grains. I had the seaweed and mushroom cream brown rice risotto, while my husband had the vegan carbonara (large serving +100 yen). Words cannot describe how incredibly creamy and packed with flavor everything was!
Dinner is more of a course meal, and it seems quite a bit more expensive, but our lunch was very reasonably priced. I can't imagine ever passing through this area again and not stopping by. Truly phenomenal!
