We were excited to see the great vegan options on their menu, but it turned out they were out of both soyrizo and impossible burger...so there was very little to choose from. Also had to send back the refried beans that came out with melted cheese over the top. They did replace the beans, but it was a disappointing experience. And over-priced.
Two stars for even having vegan options. I had read the reviews before coming here and they were completely accurate. We stayed away from the tostada and the tacos since every review said how bland they were. The wait staff was super busy but not all that rude given the circumstances of being so slammed. Since every review mentioned how bland the Mexican food was, we got the Beyond burger and it tasted like an average beyond burger however we forgot to ask for no mayo. Be warned: it does have lots of mayo that we had to scrape off.
We ordered nachos and there was some meat on it (contamination). They told us the beans and rice are full of lard and chicken stock. My vegan soyrizo tacos were blah. And the waitstaff seemed annoyed at our questions and requests. Avoid...
My husband and I read a review on a vegan website that said Coyote Joe's had vegan chorizo and other vegan meats. So, we decided to try it. My husband ordered the burrito with vegan chorizo. I ordered a tostada and I asked them if they could add some impossible burger meat to the dish. I wish I had taken a picture of what arrived. Iceberg lettuce, a few black beans on a corn tortilla, half an avocado (yes!), and an overcooked impossible burger sitting on top. No veggies, no love in it. My husband's burrito had no rice or veggies, my husband said it was "pretty tasteless". I should have sent mine back. But I was too demoralized. We've been on Catalina Island 3 days and I am hungry. I can't find a restaurant that I can make work. :(
Not a ton of options, but was glad to have a hearty lunch. The soyrizo and avocado burrito was huge and filling, but not the most exciting. It was very dry so ask for salsa and/or hot sauce.
