My first review - place was that good!! - Edit
I rarely review restaurants, but for this one I feel compelled. I stopped in Eugene on my way down to CA, and I swear I'd come back to Eugene again just for this place. I got the fried tofu with remoulade sauce for dipping, which was perfectly spicey n' crispy. Mashed potatoes and southern kale for the sides were both awesome. And jalapeño cornbread! It was one of those places where I was stoked on saving half a meal for leftovers. Definitely worth a trip.

It's in the name - Edit
The cornbread was delicious. Most items have gluten-free options which was clutch. I had the Eugenewich GF with JoJos. Shared some Mac. All was good. My friend got the Reuben and said it was the best he'd had.

It's comfort food - Edit
I was impressed with the place before I even got there. I emailed them asking about outdoor dining space. They responded promptly to let me know they do indeed have outdoor dining - essential with the pandemic.
Read moreThe service - you order at the counter. The person helping us was very friendly and helpful with menu items. Food was brought to our outdoor dining table, Wait time seemed reasonable given we were at the beginning of the diner hours.
The food - we both had Eugenewiches. So much for sampling the menu. I'd say the concept is better than the execution. Certainly looks and contains all the makings of comfort food but it is a bit on the bland side and everything sort of blended together physically. Nothing about the sandwich turned us off, it just didn't have a wow factor. The choice of sides is impressive. I had the slaw and found it to be very good. The chocolate milkshake was good though a bit expensive. The cinnamon roll (taken home and eaten the next morning) was quite good though for my tastes could get a bump of cinnamon.
The setting - the outdoor dining is in the parking lot and, while placed to the back of the lot, faces a very busy street. Hey you put outdoor dining where you have the space. There were plenty of tables and spacing was good. This location, on 7th Ave, makes for noisy dining. Eugene certainly has its share of loud pickups and cars. So don't expect a peaceful dining experience at 5:30 in the evening. But it was certainly possible to have a pleasant conversation - just expect it to be punctuated every so often by the sound of cars and trucks driven by guys who have to be compensating for something.
We saw enough to say that we'd be back to sample more of this restaurant's menu.
Pros: Friendly helpful service, Wide selection of menu items
Cons: Loud outdoor dining

A little bit of everything! - Edit
They had a deal where you can add up to three sides for the meal. Between the two of us, we got to try a lot of exciting vegan food! The portions weren’t always the biggest, and the vegan milkshake was expensive for the size, but we enjoyed the meal.

Amazing comfort food - Edit
The cornbread will knock your socks off, it is that good. We should have stayed the night in Eugene just to eat here. The portions were huge prices were good. The menu is all just amazing comfort food that makes you just want to take a nap in the sun after eating. This will become a food vacation destination for the whole family. They added milkshakes!

INSANELY DELICIOUS- PLEASE FRANCHISE! - Edit
If I could wave a magic wand and have all my vegan and non-vegan friends and family try the food from one restaurant, it would be Cornbread Cafe! My partner and I went five times while in the Eugene area and every meal was mind-blowing. The Barbie Melt is absolutely heavenly. Other favorites were the Bacon Ranch Burger, Chik'n Fried Tempeh, and the Reuben. Cinnamon rolls and soft-serve were on point! Very reasonable prices and the staff was lovely.

Southern comfort, but vegan - Edit
Being from Florida, I’ve missed some good down home southern style cooking ever since i went vegan. Cornbread has been answer to my prayers. Their southern fried tempeh is incredible. Cornbread and biscuits that taste than anything you’ll find on this side of the Mississippi.

Mouth Watering Comfort Food - Edit
I've eaten Vegan food all over the PNW and this is by far one of my favorites for taste and consistency. Also the staff is respectful qnd committed to diversity so you don't feel awkward eating there. Would have been 5 star review but I feel heavy they chose to support authorities over a deceased community member a few years back when staff posted a memorial in the window. That was bad politics and hurtful. The food is incredible

Authentic Vegan Southern Food - Edit
Everything was phenomenal. Most authentic vegan southern food ive tried. My family is from Alabama so I'm picky about my southern food but they did it perfectly here. I recommend trying everything hahaha the mains are fantastic, and you can choose your own sides. We got fried chickn, mac n cheese, cole slaw , cornbread, jalapeno cornbread a hush puppies, biscuits n gravy!! They even have proper sweet tea. Next time I'd love to try their kale, or would love to see collard greens on this menu!

Vegan Comfort Food Heaven - Edit
Some of the best food I have ever had in my entire life. I came here with my non vegan dad and to this day he still talks about the tofish and chips he had. I had the chicken and waffles which were divine and as an added claim to fame this place has been frequented by the man, the myth, the legend, the mayor of Flavortown... Mr. Guy Fierri.

So wholesome - Edit
Such a great stop on our trip! The food was excellent, the staff were so quick and kind and there was a great inclusivity to the diner. I shared the sampler platter and the deluxe fries. Both great although not sure I’d have the southern fried tofu again... tried a bit of my dad’s meal which had the seitan chikken and it was much better. ☺️ It was peak lunch time when we visited so we did have to wait about 25 mins for a table but the servers were really cool about it and kept us updated, it didn’t feel like a problem to us. Worth the wait and overall a really great spot!

Meh..... - Edit
Food is really not that great. I had the country breakfast with biscuits and gravy, fried tempeh chikn, and a flapjack. I was pretty disappointed with everything I ordered and would probably not go again. Shame as it’s one of the few all vegan spots in Eugene and the menu SOUNDS super tasty (I love soup food). Bummer! There are better places in town, so if you’re only here for a night or two just go to Morning Glory for breakfast (wayyyy better)
