A Thirst for Knowledge

Amazing ultra clean store with cutting-edge principles. Like some reviews have said already you wouldn’t necessarily do a big shop here but it’s perfect for vegan meats, cheeses and milks as well as wines and items for the hotel such as toothpaste and laundry liquids. Certainly one of the most delightful organic stores I have ever visited.

Pros: Gorgeous layout

Cons: Organic meats

A treasure trove of delights

Lots and lots and lots of vegan options. Ranges from fruit to protein powder to vegan pies. Quite expensive but that may be expected

City Essentials

Really useful for me when visiting from out of town - it’s relatively expensive but at least I know I can stock up on the right supplies to get me through a day of meetings or even for an overnight stay.

good options!

This place has all of your little vegan necessities! From nutritional yeast to cacao powders to superfood and protein bars, raw chocolate, crackers, vegan ice cream and desserts, tofu, vegan cheese and more! I usually pop in to get my favourite snacks such as popcorn, chocolates, little bird macaroons, little nice creams and bars! They also have a little area with some foods you can paper bag and takeaway such as bliss balls and some baking (not all vegan but clearly marked)

Worth a stop for your bits

Surely no one does their full shop here because it's pretty pricey BUT for vegan meats, cheeses, cakes, beauty products, etc. you really can't beat it. They also have some bulk bins to help you reduce your packaging / waste. They have a small amount of off street parking which is very handy.

Pros: Good choice of vegan produce, Waste conscious

Cons: Pricey

Gorgeous store, friendly staff, extensive range

Great range of vegan products and whatever they don't have, they're willing to order in at no extra cost. Lovely atmosphere in this store and free tea!

Great store

Fabulous store with fresh produce, bulk foods, frozen items, treats and snacks, cosmetics and home care products and a large selection of canned and packaged goods. Friendly and helpful service.
Fresh, vegan soup available daily - the three I had during my stay in Wellington were delicious.

"Fruit & veg boxes, bulk goods, allergy-free foods, office deliveries, gifts, hospital deliveries, health & beauty."

Pros: fresh daily vegan soup, friendly staff, large selection

Happy to help

In addition to the other comments (which I generally agree with), the staff here are keen to help - if there's a specific vegan item you're looking for (for example, vegan-sourced Omega-3-DHA capsules), they're happy to find it and get it in for you. After I enquired, they started stocking the DEVA range of vegan supplements.

I find most of their stuff a bit expensive and tend to go to supermarkets instead (you can get non-dairy cheese in New World at $2 less per block), but it's a good source for some of the harder to find stuff.

Pros: Staff happy to source specific items

Cons: Expensive compared to supermarket

Vegan heaven

Having recently relocated to Wellington, I was delighted to stumble upon Commonsense organics. They have an incredible range of almost anything a vegan (in New Zealand at least) could ever wish for, from produce to cosmetics and everything in between, including vegan cheese! Although I would say the focus is definitely on the food side of things rather than skincare, makeup etc.

The store is extremely well set out and staff all seem very friendly. It is an essential visit for anyone with special dietary requirements living in Wellington. Prices aren't cheap, but that's to be expected.

Pros: Huge range, Central location

Cons: Limited range of cosmetics

Food for the ethical and health conscious eater

Not only does Commonsense Organics have a full range of organic food products, it also caters to those on gluten-free or vegan diets. As a vegan, I shop there to get my fix of almond milk, non-gelatin sweets, non-dairy cheese, vegan friendly cosmetics and environmentally conscious household products. Yum!

Pros: Ethical company, Large vegan range, Organic fix!

Cons: Expensive, Inconvenient parking

Largest Organic retailer in NZ?

If I have the location correct, this was directly across from our hotel, museum hotel. Someone told me it is the largest organic retailer in NZ. Its OK. the produce was HORRIBLE the day we went, all wilted. I honestly have the best time at Woolworths, they have a decent organic area, soy milks, vegan soups, etc.
