Always Good - Edit
A visit to Chow is always great when returning to Wellington. Good vegan options the jungle curry and potstickers are especially good. Excellent service and very accommodating when we turned up on a busy evening without a booking.

Great value restaurant lunch - Edit
Chow is always really reliable with lots of vegan options. The $17 lunch deal is probably the best value restaurant lunch in town if you get the jungle curry (only $2 more than a takeaway burrito from around the corner), and the restaurant environment is very nice.
Read moreIf you get the lunch deal and don’t get the jungle curry, you’re making a huge mistake. The jungle curry is a very filling portion, and delicious. You generally only get one chunk of tofu per curry portion, but it’s fine because there’s potato, carrot, beans, baby corn, and plenty of rice. Plus you get miso and one other choice from the set menu - the other options are all more like small sharing plates.
Pros: Great value lunch deal, Jungle curry is filling and delicious
Cons: Other than jungle curry, sharing plates are small

Awesome vegan menu, two for one Mondays! - Edit
All the vegan options are well labeled and well thought out. Mock duck, vegan mayo, lots of very delicious options. I liked everything. They offer a $17 lunch special that looks great as well.

Chow is a classic great food lots of options. The portions are small so you will have to order a lot to be full so much sure to go on Monday for the two for one other wise can get expensive.

Manic Mondays - Edit
Perfectly timed visit on a Monday night as everything is 2for1 except drinks and rice. We ordered the BBQ tofu skewers (with peanuts, cucumber & lime chilli sauce) a delicately fragrant and slightly kicking jungle curry with spring rolls and a portion of deliciously battered al dente cauliflower tempura. Everything was leaning towards awesome.

Tapas after my heart and wallet - Edit
I tried the mushroom wontons, potstickers, summer rolls and aloo tiki. It was all 10/10 flavours, but prepare to spend all your money on small portions.

Lovely Curry and Bao Buns - Edit
The bao buns and curry that I had were really good, especially the bao buns. The rest of my food was fine, but nothing memorable.

Had high hopes, but…. - Edit
Service was bad, sat us in a corner away from everyone and the waitresses couldn’t even see us so our water didn’t get refilled until we had already finished our food. Food was kinda bland and didn’t have much flavour. We got the jackfruit bao which was pretty good, the udon which was just way too simple and could be made 100x better at home, and the bbq tofu skewers which were ok. Probably won’t be going back anytime soon

Delicious vegan options - Edit
Many options to choose from - my friend and I ordered small plates to share, and each was excellent! We had Vietnamese spring rolls, "popcorn" tofu (bomb!), a jackfruit bao, and shiitake dumplings (the star of the show). The menu is clearly labeled and the staff were friendly. The place is also really nice.

2 4 1 Monday’s are amazing! - Edit
Chow runs lots of different deals during the week, it’s great. They used to run a full vegan Tuesday, but nevertheless, they have an abundance of vegan options. On the expensive side but if you time it right during the week with one of their deals then it’s fine. They do $15 lunches! A cool place to go with a group and all about the sharing plates. Definitely recommend.

Not vegan! - Edit
Again, another place that says vegan but it’s not. They cook vegan options with meat and fish. Very disappointing but the papaya salad they made me was great.

Great vegan options but too hot for me - Edit
Chow has so many great vegan options: popcorn tofu, jungle curry, spicey cauliflower, dumplings etc. It is also in a central location and has a great atmosphere. However I don't think I will go there again because the food is just too spicy hot for me. I actually don't mind mild heat, but we were not asked how hot did we want the food and I didn't think to ask how hot it would be because it's never been an issue anywhere else I've eaten. But sadly both my dining companion and I struggled to deal with the heat in all the dishes we ordered. I had to stop eating because my mouth was burning so bad and it burned for hours afterwards. The popcorn tofu in itself wasn't hot, but the sauce it came with was. I told the waitperson the sauce was too hot and she took it away but she didn't come back with another sauce. Everything else we ordered was too hot.
Read moreIt was a shame and a disappointing meal out because we paid all that money for the food and then couldn't eat most of it even though it looked and smelled so good.
Pros: great location, lots of vegan options, nice staff
Cons: too hot, too hot, too hot

2 for 1 cocktails and one of the best curry’s I’ve had in Welly (jungle curry) I’d come just for that. Skewers and dumplings were lacking though.

Good Vegan Options, Delicious Cocktails - Edit
Great cocktails (especially on Wed and Sat when they have 2 of the same cocktail for 1), a little expensive for food but some good vegan options unless you get their lunch deal when you pick a few options from a smaller menu and a drink. Jungle curry is a favourite. Moody atmosphere (not too bright) which I like.

Food took ages and then tasted very average. Incredibly spicy even though we did not ask for extra chilli or anything. Really wanted to like it, but left feeling disappointed. Have heard good reviews however, we could have caught them on a bad day!

Great vegan options and delicious cocktails - Edit
Chow was an excellent restaurant - from the service, to the drinks, to the food.
Read moreFor our starter at Chow we shared the crispy seven spice tofu, with sea salt, sesame and chilli soy sauce, which was packed with flavour, perfectly cooked and incredibly moreish (not to mention easy to eat with chopsticks so you look like a pro).
For the main course I opted for the Jungle Curry with roast vegetables, kaffir lime, coconut cream, fried tofu and coriander. The curry was deliciously creamy with light flavours and punchy spice.
The cocktail menu is brilliantly inventive - the Geisha Girls Grog was a delicious strawberry gin cocktail that I just had to recreate when I got home!
I would love to return here one day and hope that you too can enjoy it on your trip to Wellington
Pros: Inventive cocktails, Lots of vegan options, Delicious food

Great food but not much choice - Edit
We had a lovely meal there - great food, busy noodle-bar atmosphere, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Menu clearly labelled for vegan and vegetarian options which was great. Not a huge selection however so would probably choose somewhere else next time given how Wellington has a lot of vegan choices, but great option for dining with any staunchly omnivorous friends.
