5 STARS

Great vegan options. You get to choose your own spice level. I get the potato lasagna at a 6 and it is amazing. The fried plantains are super crispy and delicious as well. They do take away which is great too.

Best Haitian in Grand Rapids

Chez Olga is hard to miss from the outside. It is housed in a floral woodworking of a building that is eye-catching a potential the most unique looking buildings in GR. Once inside, the more humble interior welcomes you to a plethora of mouth watering Caribbean food.

Offering many vegan options, Chez Olga strives to give a plant-based experience to quality Haitian food. I have had the vegan potato lasagna and the vegan curry. Both of them are incredible. I seriously do not understand just how they are able to make it taste so full and rich.

The staff is always friendly and willing to chat and make sure you have a good time. This is great for a leisurely lunch. Just keep that in mind that it also means the food takes a little longer to prepare, but it is worth the wait.

Chez Olga is a top tier vegan option in Grand Rapids. The locals know it’s a winner. Make sure to check out Chez Olga for a casual and delicious lunch.

Excellent Spot!

I went here in October 2021, so this review is long overdue. One of my favorite spots I’ve tried in Grand Rapids while traveling from Chicago to northern Michigan. Portions are sizable for reasonable prices, each dish is flavorful, and my brief chat with the owner/chef about vegan dishes was mighty pleasant. Absolutely worth giving a visit!

Pros: Lots of great options, Accommodating of swaps/substitutions, Good bang for the buck

Excellent food!

Wow! The food here is unreal. I’ve never had Caribbean food before trying this place. I got the creole tofu dish and the flavors were complex and delicious. I can usually handle a normal amount of spice, so on the 1-10 spice scale I got a 4. It was VERY spicy so I’ll definitely get a 2 or 3 next time! Lots of vegan options, though not clearly labeled. The wait for our food was a little long but absolutely worth it.

Delicious!

Excellent portion sizes, food was very good, and the service was very good. Our server was very helpful guiding us to choose our spice level from 1-10. I had the potato lasagna and the fried plantains. I am definitely going to go again!

Pros: Portion sizes, Delicious!

Cons: Vegan food not labeled

Good.

The service was not good. The wait was over an hour. The food is always amazing that's the only reason I go back!

DELICIOUS!!!

Go go go go. Sooooooo good. The fried plantains, beans and rice, rice and spinach, veggie gumbo (coconut sauce is AMAZING), are all great. For extra yum get the corosol juice. It's so good. It's made from a fruit called soursop elsewhere in the carribbean and it's blended with ice. The kids I nanny declared it amazing -- somewhere between pear, pineapple, lichi, and a hint of mango. Seriously. Get it!

Olga is super friendly and awesome also!

Only caveat -- you choose your spice level on a scale of 1-10. At most places I choose "medium". This does not mean to order 5 at Chez Olga's! Three is the most I can handle!

Pros: Delicious, Friendly service

Vegan Creole Heaven!

Vegetarian dishes include the Creole Tofu in a creamy coconut sauce; Vegetable Gumbo with okra, bell pepper, mushrooms, broccoli, peas, and carrots in red sauce; Gumbo Tofu sauteed then mixed with fresh okra and white onions in red sauce and Potato Lasagna made with diced potatoes, yellow carrots, broccoli, spinach, green beans, red bell peppers and mushrooms in a red tomato sauce. They have a Black Bean Salad & an Avocado Salad. Also a Vegetable Soup. They have Red Beans & Rice, Spinach Rice, Black Rice With Mushrooms, Steamed Mixed Vegetables,
Caribbean Fried Rice and Spicy Coleslaw.
For dessert don't miss the Lustres Bannann Dous - Sweet plantains glazed in a sauce with cinnamon, coconut milk, nutmeg, and star anise. They also have Creole Cheesecake topped with coconut and drizzled with chocolate and
Rice Pudding. Oh, I forgot about he Fried Plantain Sandwich! Yum!

Almost everything can be veganized. Just ask.
